Here’s a neat Photoshop tutorial that shows us how  improve the detail in photos without adding color noise.  This trick involves using a High Pass Filter. The very simple and easy to do video tut also teaches to control the area of the photo that we want to sharpen. If you don’t want a particular area to be overly detailed, you can easily do so by erasing the part with the High Pass Filter.
