Quixey: An App Search Engine that Understands You

October 21st, 2011 | 3 Comments | Posted in Technology

Where do you usually search for apps? Google? Bing? Yahoo!? – Or the native search engine of the platform that caters the apps? Well, you can ditch the search engines that I’ve mentioned and head over to Quixey. It’s your one stop search tool for any app that you’ll need. You can search for iOS apps, Andriod Apps, Windows Apps, Chrome Apps, Firefox Add Ons, Etc.

What makes Quixey different from your favorite search engine is that not only is it focused on apps, it understands natural language. This means that it will understand you and deliver the app you need. It will help you find the app that’s suitable for you, ranked based on their algorithm. You need not type the exact name of the app or keywords that describes the app if you’re looking for a task specific app for your needs.

How do they do this?

Quixey invented Functional Search specifically for apps. With Quixey, you do not need to know an app’s name or its official description to find the right app. Unlike traditional search engines, Quixey constantly scans blogs, review sites, forums and social media outlets to learn what each app can do and how people use it. Quixey uses this data to help users find the apps they need across all platforms. Since we have a thorough understanding of each app, Functional Search is not dependent on keywords.

Watch the short video to get a glimpse of Quixey in action.

How to Uninstall Applications that doesn’t want to Uninstall in Windows 7

August 17th, 2011 | Comments Off | Posted in Tips N Tricks

Have you ever come across a Windows application that doesn’t want to uninstall itself on your machine? If you haven’t, then there’s always a first time. So, how do we deal with applications or software that doesn’t want to get rid of itself and want to stay on your Windows install, for like, forever? Or how do we deal with applications that still leave traces of themselves on your Windows registry? The answer to that is pretty simple. Just download and install (or use the Portable version) the Revo Uninstaller. It works on works on Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7.

The Revo Uninstaller is a Windows utility that allows you to uninstall applications. It is an awesome alternative to the resident uninstaller on your Windows machine. Why is it better? Revo Uninstaller will force the shit out of programs that doesn’t want to uninstall itself. Plus, it will remove all traces of the program/software/application on your registry.

Another great thing about using Revo Uninstaller is that it lets you skip the process that some most applications put you through when uninstalling. Some applications will ask you to complete a survey form before it allows you to uninstall it. Some will redirect you to their website and ask you to fill out surveys and ask you tons of questions regarding their software.

Bottom line is that by using a third party uninstaller like Revo Uninstaller is very convenient. It will save you time and will clean all the crap that applications leave behind when uninstalled.

Download Revo Uninstaller here.

Download the Portable Version here.

How to Make File Sharing Using Dropbox Much Much Easier

June 27th, 2011 | 1 Comment | Posted in Tips N Tricks

If you’re a DropBox user, it’s safe to say that you’re already aware of the file sharing capability of the service. All files that are saved in your Public folder can be easily shared with anybody online. All you need to do is to get the link from your Dropbox pubic folder by right clicking the public file, and copying the public link, and share it with whomever you choose.

The normal sharing process in your Dropbox normally takes about 3 to 10 seconds. Pretty fast? But, what if you can save those precious seconds of your life by making the process automatic? In order to accomplish that, all you need is a very lightweight Windows (Sorry Mac users) utility called Dropbox Linker.

Simply install the Dropbox Linker utility and enter your Dropbox user ID. Your user ID can be found by doing a manual link copy from your Dropbox public folder. Paste the link somewhere and you’ll see your User ID on the link. It’s the series of numbers just before the filename of the shared item.

While this utility running in the background, you will get the link automatically copied to clipboard and receive the corresponding visual notification every time you place something on your DropBox’s public folder. You can also place multiple files on your public folder and get multiple links copied to your clipboard.

If you rename a file within your Public folder, and the file was already referenced by a URL in your clipboard, its link will be corrected corresponding to the last version.

Additionally, if you move referenced a file out of Public folder (or simply delete it), its URL will be safely removed from the clipboard.

This is ultimately a very useful application for someone who shares a lot using Dropbox.

How To Copy and Move Files Faster on Windows 7

April 22nd, 2011 | Comments Off | Posted in Tips N Tricks

There’s no actual tweak for this one. In order to make Windows 7 (also Vista and XP) copy files faster, all you need is this lightweight software called TeraCopy. It’s a compact program designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed while providing the user with extra features to boot.

What makes TeraCopy worth the download?

• Copy files faster. TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times. Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives.

• Pause and resume file transfers. Pause copy process at any time to free up system resources and continue with a single click.

• Error recovery. In case of copy error, TeraCopy will try several times and in the worse case just skip the file, not terminating the entire transfer.

• Interactive file list. TeraCopy shows failed file transfers and lets you fix the problem and recopy only problem files.

• Shell integration. TeraCopy can completely replace Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you work with files as usual.

• Full Unicode support.

• Windows 7 x64 support.

• Free
