MergePDF: Fuses your PDFs Together

February 6th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Tips N Tricks

merge-pdf-logoMergePDF, like what the name suggests, is an online tool that you can use to merge PDF documents into a single file. If you have multiple, small sized PDF documents that you want combined, you might want to try using this tool.

For each process, you are allowed to merge up to 10 PDFs with sizes not exceeding 5MB. If you think that the file size limit is rather small, you’ll have to do it using desktop applications such as Acrobat PRO or some other PDF related desktop software. If you’re merging large files, then most probably you don’t want them to be lurking around the internet anyway. Even if MergePDF stated that the files that are uploaded are removed right after the merge process is completed.

The only thing that is not safe in itself is the data transfer as we are not transferring through SSL. If our users send us an email requesting SSL, we will happily address that and provide upload over https.

This is a neat and simple tool for doing a simple task and it won’t cost you anything. It merges PDFs, no manipulating no editing, that’s as simple as it gets.

ShortText: A Dead Simple Online Posting Tool

January 28th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Tips N Tricks

short-text-logoWhenever you want something to be posted online, it is a requirement to have your own website, join a social networking site or register for free blog services. However, there are quite a few services out there that let you post your content with minimum fuss and ShortText is one of them. It’s a simple tool to post text online which does not require you to register or sign in. It’s an on demand web presence for your information.

The service will create a ShortText URL for your content. The URL will remain active for as long as someone visits it at least once a year. You can make a post private by placing your own password key or by generating a random one. You are also allowed to link to images and videos by simply ticking a check box. You may allow comments and use rich text (the codes are similar to the ones used in forum sites). With a maximum of 30000 allowed characters, I’m sure that it’s quite hard for you to run out of text space for your content.

ShortText is a simple service that can be used by anybody who wants to publish content anonymously. Since it is not a requirement to register, it makes it very convenient for such publishers.

*They also have a Firefox extension which makes it easy for you to publish text found online by highlighting the text and creating a ShortText URL.

FreshGenerator: Online Image Box Generator

November 13th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in Design

FreshGenerator is an online web design tool that you can use to create graphic elements used in many web 2.0 sites. It can be used to create boxes of different styles and colors. You don’t have to worry about image sizes and playing with colors for it allows you to change them until it becomes the image that you are looking for.

Creating an image box is very easy using FreshGenerator and the box settings are very easy to understand. If you have trouble distinguishing which is which, just move the editing bar on an effect tool and click the update button. This will tell you which tool is related to a particular effect. Just play with it and see what happens.

You can edit the box’s width, height, transparency, color, gradient, padding, shadow size and shadow color. You can also make rounded corners and edit the border style. The colors of the text in the box are also changeable as well as size and font styles.

FreshGenerator can be useful if you are designing your own template or customizing an existing one to fit your taste. It can also be used to create background boxes for your advertisement or site announcement banners.

Wordle: Create Word Art Using your Blog

October 18th, 2008 | 7 Comments | Posted in Design, Games

I was digging through my bookmarks and I just happened to find this really cool web app. Some of you may have already known about this tool but for those who are new to it, here it is.

Wordle is a web app that allows you to create word art from your blog . It’s kind of similar to tag clouds or word clouds. The only difference is that the created word cloud is in the form of an image file.

To use the tool, just enter the URL of you blog. Wordle will generate a random word art for you. You can then edit your word art to match your taste. You can change color schemes, font styles, word positions and backgrounds. Or, you can use my favorite feature, Randomize. If you wish to generate a word art from your list of selected words, you may do so by placing the words you want to appear on your word art instead of using the URL box.

You can print your generated word art, showcase them in your blog or share them with your friends by saving it to the Wordle Gallery. The web app may not be entirely useful but it’s fun and really cool.

Site Reloader: Reloads Websites for You

October 8th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

Site Reloader is a web app that, well, reloads a website for you. When I came across this web app, I was thinking of practical uses for the tool. It says on their site that it will help you stay current with information on your favorite websites. I was thinking that it could be useful in staying up to date with forum sites so that you don’t have to hit the reload button every time, but even forum sites have RSS feeds in them so it’s up to you if you want to check the them live or through RSS.

If ever you decide to use Site Reloader, you just need to enter the URL of the website you want to reload. It will ask you to disable popups because it will pop out the website that you are going to track. You can set the reload time from five seconds to thirty minutes. I don’t find it very efficient to reload a website/page every five seconds just to stay updated. It’s a waste of bandwidth and it will add load to the website’s server.

The site is free and there is no need to sign up to reload sites, not unless you want to save your list and have it open for you when you sign in again. Site Reloader is not an everyday app and not very useful to all but it might be for people on auction sites and heavy forum users who are too lazy to reload pages.
