simler logoSimler is a social networking site and messaging service where you can find and connect with other people who have similar interests as you. The connections are made by tags that you placed describing your interests or a topic of discussion.

Simply place tags of things that you are interested in and Simler will recommend people with common tags. You’ll be able to meet other people that like the same thing(s) you like, or connect with others that have more than one thing in common with you.

The homepage of Simler comprises posts that you made as well as your friends posts on mutual tags. If there is a general conversation that you would like to share with your friends, you can post it to your profile rather than a tag. You can do that by simply not specifying a tag from the homepage publisher. When you post to your profile, that post shows up in all your friends’ homestreams so everyone can join in on the dialogue.

This is a new way to connect with new people and converse with friends which has similar interests as you do. If you are looking for a new social networking site which has an easy way of connecting with others with similar interests, you should give Simler a try. Start tagging your interests and make new connections with like-minded people easily.

FriendFeed Friendly Apps

Easily View FriendFeed Links in StumbleRead

StumbleRead is a link browser for your FriendFeed links. Normally, when using Friendfeed, you have to click the link and open a new tab in order to read or browse the content on a particular feed. With StumbleRead, you can browse all the FriendFeed feeds on the sidebar, and view those feeds on the same page.

What I like about the service is that its features are not only restricted to stumbling a feed. You can also make your comments and bookmark a particular feed from the StumbleRead sidebar. You can choose to StumbleRead your FriendFeed friends or StumbleRead everyone’s feed. You can also use its sharing tool to quickly add what you have stumbled to your FriendFeed account and share it with your friends.

The service is quite simple and pretty useful if you are a heavy FriendFeed user. If you are thinking of starting a FriendFeed account, you might want to check out StumbleRead and see if it will work out for you. You do not need to register for a new account in order to use the service. You just need to hand them out your FriendFeed nickname and FriendFeed remote key.

FriendFeed Machine for FriendFeed Management

FriendFeed Machine is a service that helps you manage your Friendfeed account. You can view your friends’ feeds separately. This will allow you to properly distinguish where a particular feed came from. It also lets you view how many comments a feed got from other users. You can also filter the feeds by the service from which they came from. Just click the logo of the service (e.g Twitter) and you can see all the tweets made by that user.

I also noticed the absence of links to the feeds in FriendFeed Machine. To some, this might cause inconvenience because of its inability to direct you to the links that you might find interesting. If they place links in there then they’ll become a FriendFeed aggregator of some sort. It will take away its purpose of being a friendly FriendFeed webapp. It would be nice though if they could just integrate their features to FriendFeed itself. That will surely increase FriendFeed’s management features.

Cleaner FriendFeed

Cleaner FriendFeed offers the name that it suggests, a cleaner Friendfeed. It changes FriendFeed’s layout by removing the logo and changing the fonts, spacing and highlights. You can also tweak it to fit your taste. Cleaner FriendFeed is available in Stylish(a Firefox Plugin) or you can use the GreaseMonkey Script.

Lets be friends in FriendFeed.

Cool FaceBook Games from Playfish

June 30th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Games

Playfish is a social gaming provider which focuses on making games for social networks. The service aims to create a new genre of games by combining the best elements of casual games, social networks, MMOGs and virtual worlds. This will provide an entirely new, more social ways of enjoying great games together.

Social gaming is now becoming more and more of a trend with the popularity of social networking sites. While the types of games that can be played on social networks are not for hardware hungry hard core gamers, this will surely appeal to casual gamers who spends a lot of time in their favorite social networking sites.

The games that Playfish provides are quite addictive and fun to play. They only support Facebook as of the moment. With all the great feedback and reviews that they are getting from users and news sites, I’m pretty sure that it’s only a matter of time when support for other popular networking sites is made available.

The Games:

Who Has The Biggest Brain: A brain game where you are taken through a series of four mini games (Calculation, Memory, Logic, and Visual) which will test your brain’s ability on each category.

Word Challenge: A vocabulary hunting game where you are given 6 letters. The objective of the game is to create a 3-6 letter word from the letters provided as fast as you can. It’s like a text twist with a twist.

Bowling Buddies: You can enjoy a game of Bowling with your online buddies by creating your own customizable 3D character. You can play this in single player mode or go head to head with friends in challenge mode.

You might want to try out these games in your social network (currently Facebook) to play with your friends. You will have to check back from time to time though to see if they will be supporting your favorite social networking site.

CheckOutMyInk : Social Tattoo Sharing Site

June 10th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in Cool Sites

CheckOutMyInk is a social networking site for tattoo artists, tattoo lovers and for those who are planning to get their bodies inked. The service was created by a group of tattoo lovers who wanted to build a community based on tattoos without charging a fee. This is a great place for people looking for tattoo inspiration or for passers by who just wants to check out the inks on others. Tattoo artists will also be given the chance to showcase their art and gain exposure through the site.

The service offers a growing database of tattoo art neatly categorized for the user’s convenience. Some of the categories in CheckOutMyInk include traditional, Asian/Chinese, Tribal, Biomechanical, Fantasy and a lot more. Users can also search through a tag cloud based on inspiration and location of the tattoos. Registration is not required if you just want to browse the site and check out the designs, commenting and uploading photos will however require you to sign up.I browsed around the site and found some very interesting body ink showcased on the site. Check some of them below.

If you are planning to get a tattoo, CheckOutMyInk would be a good place to start looking for inspiration and asking the experts on where to place your tattoo. It will also give you an idea on where the most and least painful part of the body to get inked. Doesn’t hurt to do a little research and get some inspiration from other artists. A tattoo is permanent and you don’t want to get a mistranslated Chinese tat on your body or one that sucks.

Pownce: File Sharing Social Networking Site

January 23rd, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites

pownce-logo.jpgPownce is now open to the public after a six months run in private beta. The site is a combination of social networking, micro-blogging and file sharing. Jammed all together, these features made this website unique from other social networking sites. Another feature worth mentioning is its ability to import friends from other social sites like Digg, Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. You can also send invites to your contact lists in Gmail, Hotmail, AOL and Yahoo. This will make it easier for you to transfer contacts from your previous network of friends from other sites and reduce the time spent on networking again and again.

pownce.jpg

The free service lets you send up to 10 MB files to your friends and invite them to events which you can sync with your Google Calendar. When you send out invitations, you also get a report on the messages that you have sent out, like how many got your message. Going Pro will allow you to design a custom theme for your profile. The limit of the file that you can send through Pownce will be upgraded up to a 100 MB. Plus your space will be ad free and will set you back 20 dollars per year.

The website is still young and promises improvements in the coming months. Some are already comparing it to Twitter which features mobile phone functionality but lacking the file sharing capability. Pownce is a promising web service and is definitely worth checking out.

Update:

December 15, 2008.

We are sad to announce that Pownce is shutting down on December 15,
2008. As of today, Pownce will no longer be accepting new users or new
pro accounts.

To help with your transition, we have built an export tool so you can
save your content. You can find the export tool at Settings > Export.
Please export your content by December 15, 2008, as the site will not
be accessible after this date.

Please visit our new home to find out more:

Our thanks go out to everyone who contributed to the Pownce community,
