SealTale: Social Networking Through Icons

September 25th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Blog Tips, Technology

sealtaleSealTale is a social networking tool that allows you to share your interests, inclinations and preference through seal-like badgets. It’s a means to express your online identity by attaching seals to your blog. The process is similar to placing small icons of the social networking sites and blog promotion tools on your blog but in a more gadget-like manner. You’ll also be able to express what you are supporting such as campaigns, political issues and activities that you enjoy doing.

Sealtale is a new-concept SNS, in which the users can meet and network with other users who have similar interests and inclinations.

Our service’s name is composed of Seal (New-concept networking medium) and Tale (Stories told by the users) that form Seal:Tale Seal We, Sealtale, strive to become the medium that connects and weaves together all the one-person media on the Web.

You can create your own seal by placing your blog logo or any image that you want. Adding your interests is as easy as adding icons that relate to the activities, websites and favorite things on earth. Once you have glued your seal to your blog, you can simply seat back and social network through the service.

Sealtale provides two major services. The Tale service or the related postings service functions by filtering RSS tags and selects the postings that are related to the Seal the user has glued on his/her blog or social networking page. The postings are automatically updated to the Tale menu of Sealbook. It’s like an automated social networking service that is updated as you post on your blog or personal social page.

Another purpose of the widget is in the form of advertising. You can easily extend your reach by joining the community and making your contributions available everywhere. If it is related to other postings then they will surely appear on their seal tale.

The application has several more features that can only be explained if you actually use it. For whatever purpose you have on using the service, I’m sure that you’ll find the service quite interesting. It’s a new breed of social networking widget that seems to outdate services like BlogCatalog and the like. Its feature rich, informative and it looks great. Glue a seal now to find out.

FilmSuggest: Discover Movies Based on your Favorites

December 18th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in Cool Sites

filmsuggest-logoFilmSuggest is a movie recommendation site which suggests movies based on the ones that you have seen. If you’re looking for a movie which are similar to the ones that you’ve watched you can view FilmSuggest’s recommendations by rating a few movies that you have seen. If you are into alien and sci-fi movies, then you can expect highly rated recommendations similar to the movies that you have seen.

The service uses the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) to get the titles, genres, actors, directors, plots, and MPAA ratings. It uses Amazon’s database for DVD cover artwork and of course, a link to the store where you can make a purchase. The DVD / BluRay artwork may not always be present but the information about the movie such as actors and plots are available upon mouseover.

In your FilmSuggest profile, you can also add a wish list, show collection to friends (social networking feature is coming soon) and view most popular movies based on user ratings. You can prevent movies that you have already seen from appearing on the suggestions list by simply rating them and updating the suggestion list.

StumbleUpon: New Site and a Toolbar that Lets you Stumble Anywhere

October 3rd, 2008 | 10 Comments | Posted in Cool Sites

StumbleUpon, the popular traffic generating and website discovery tool just released a new format for their website. The main page that you see in the screenshot now displays recommended sites with five stars ranking in SU.

Now you can use Stumbleupon on any browser by using their virtual toolbar. There is still an option to use the SU toolbars if you are IE and Firefox users but it is not entirely necessary anymore. You do not need to register in order to start stumbling but if you want to save the pages that you liked or rated, it will ask you to create an account. I also noticed that that if you are doing stumbles without an account, the pages that they will display on your stumbles are the top rated pages. In order to get pages from sites based on your selected categories, you still need to sign-up.

If you’re a StumbleUpon user and want to view their new website and check out their new toolbar, I would recommend using a different browser. There are reports that it’s still not appearing on everyone’s browsers. When I try to access their website using my Firefox with the SU toolbar installed, it brings me to the old site but if I access it using Chrome, the new design and toolbar appears. It sort of detects the browser that you are using or if you have a toolbar installed and will display the appropriate design based on the browser or the presence of a toolbar.

This is a big move for StumbleUpon. Non Firefox and IE users can now enjoy the full SU experience without having to install a toolbar. It would mean more users for them and less hassle for other browser users. I still prefer using the Firefox toolbar but this is great for people using browsers like Safari, Opera or Chrome. Enjoy Stumbling.

ShareYourBrain: Share Ideas

October 2nd, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Cool Sites

It’s always interesting to read or hear about other people’s ideas. It’s even more interesting if you can share your own and become a part in building ideas that will help others. There is a place online called ShareYourBrain where you can do the things that I’ve mentioned above.

In ShareYourBrain, you can read about ideas created by others and see what other people have contributed to those ideas. You can also announce a project that you are doing using the social network and get suggestions from other people. Members are also allowed to vote on ideas shared by other members.

Idea Points are rewarded to users for adding new ideas and for collaborating on what others have started. Those points can be exchanged for cash or other reward items. This is a great way of keeping things flowing for users. It’s a great place to learn and hear what others have to say and share your own thoughts about pretty much anything. If you have something to share, then head out to ShareYourBrain and start warming up those neurons.
