Minus: A Minimalist Drag and Drop Sharing Platform

March 8th, 2011 | 1 Comment | Posted in Technology

Minus is a file sharing app where you can simply and easily drop files from your desktop to your browser. Yes, just drag the file (pictures, documents, music, videos, etc.) from any folder on your computer and drop it on the Min.us website.

Registration in Minus is optional. You can immediately share a file upon dragging it to the minus interface. However, creating a Min.us account has a few perks:

• You can have own Profile at http://min.us/u/yourusername.

• You can follow and subscribe to other users to see their latest galleries via home page.

• You can publish your galleries onto your profile for your followers and fans. (Your galleries will always be private by default)

• You can track your own galleries from anywhere on the go.

All the uploaded files are kept indefinitely unless deleted by the user or if it goes against their TOS (terms of service). The size limit currently is 50 MB per item and there can be a max of 50 items per gallery. This may not be much as but it is certainly suitable for quick sharing images, documents and short videos. Plus, they promise to upgrade the current size and item limit in the future.

*Minus works on Firefox and Chrome browsers, and supports Windows, Mac, Linux and Android operating systems. (iOS and Blackberry support coming soon)

Blerp: Share Everything and Make Comments Anywhere

May 19th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites

blerpHow many times have you encountered an article or a page on the internet that doesn’t allow you to make comments or some form of reaction? In order to start a discussion about a website or webpage that doesn’t allow comments, they are often submitted to social networking sites where everybody can say what they want.

Blerp is a brand new social sharing site that allows you to make comments on any website, even if that website does not allow comments on their pages. You can view the shared page or website right on your Blerp desktop and make a discussion over the page itself. People can comment, react with images, add videos videos and insert widgets on any webpage. The actual webpage will, of course, not display these “blerps.” They are only viewable on Blerp.

What I like about the service is that it boxes the webpage or the website within itself. It makes it convenient for the user to either make a blerp comment or make an actual comment on the viewed page provided that commenting is allowed or available.

This interesting new social network will give users a unique discussion experience about anything you see online. With the wide range of “reaction” tools that we can use, I’m sure Blerp will attract certain social media users who want to try out something new.

DailyMugShot: Chronicle and Share Daily Images of Yourself

December 17th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites

dailymugshotDailyMugShot is a free service which allows you to generate a widget containing daily images of yourself. The widget can be embedded on social networking profiles or blogs. This way, you can share with your friends or keep to yourself (private) a daily collection of photos of yourself. You and your friends can play and watch the everyday change in you through your DailyMugShot widget.

To get started, you can use your webcam, digital camera or camera phone and of course, a DailyMugShot account. You can either upload photos from your digicam or camera phone, or take a photo of yourself through your webcam and post immediately on DMS. Your widget will be updated automatically whenever you post a new mugshot.

You are only allowed to one mugshot per day. Since the service is all about chronicling lives by taking a single picture a day, it’s only appropriate that a limit of only one photo a day be allowed. Have fun with your daily photos.

Doink: Draw Animate Share

December 10th, 2008 | 7 Comments | Posted in Cool Sites

Doink is a place where you can make drawings online and create animation out of them. It can be like one of those paper animations with stick figures or a really cool animation of whatever you can think of. Doink is about having fun and exploring your creativity. Whether you just want to draw or create an animation out of those drawings.

The editor is very easy to use and will not require any expertise like Photoshop. Just click a button to test and see what it does. Once you get comfortable using it, you’ll have no problem at all making your first drawing. That first drawing is the first step for you in creating an animation. Just add another frame and you’re off. I find editing with frames very easy. Once you create a new frame, it will appear in such a way, that as if you’re like placing a translucent paper on top of your previous frame. It’s pretty much like how animators work which is very cool. This way, you can trace the drawing on the previous frame so you can easily make the next action of your animation.

Another cool feature of Doink is the collaboration feature. Aside from sharing your work with other members, you can also use their community art search tool to find drawings or animations made by others. You can then grab those creations and use them in yours.

Doink is a fun way to draw, create avatars and funny animations. The best part is that you get to create your own and share them with others.

Knowledgerush is a community driven online directory that shares free books that are available in the internet. You can easily search their directory by category, title or author. What is great about this service is that it shares the online books in different formats. You can get them in text, HTML, Microsoft Ebook, Paginated HTML or paginated text format which will depend on the availability of the format.

Members of the Knowledgerush community can submit books that can be downloaded or read online for free. They also accept submissions from aspiring authors who wants to publish their work online. If you happen to know a page in the internet that contains a book that is not on the directory of Knowledgerush, and want to help out the community, you can submit the URL along with the Author, Title and Category of the book in their submission page which will be reviewed before they are added to the catalog.

The service is different from DailyLit which offers scheduled installments of books but both share the same goal of sharing free books online.

Draw Share Rate Online Drawings with Rate My Drawings

March 4th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Cool Sites

ratemydrawings.jpgRate My Drawing is one of many online drawing sites where you can create your art using their online drawing tool. The site uses a Flash based online drawing tool which I find easy to use and get used to. If you are used to drawing on paper then you will notice a difference in your strokes but you will get used to it in no time. You can check out their drawing tool below.

Once your drawing is complete you can submit it so that you can share it in your blogs or friends on your social networking site. The submitted drawing remains unlocked until you have confirmed through email which will unlock the drawing for public viewing so that other users can rate your drawing accordingly. The rating is from 1 to 10, 1 being a Disaster and 10 for Master.

Don’t let the rating system stop you from making your own online drawing if you are a beginner or if you think that you are not good enough. This is a great site for learning different techniques from other artists. What I like about Rate My Drawings (aside from having very easy to use tools) is that when you view other artists’ drawings, the flash movie shows how the artist made the drawing starting from the first stroke up to when he/she finished it. This gives information on how the drawing is done which allows others to learn from it. Below is a remarkable drawing created by Roki.
