Kngine: Understanding the Meaning Behind Search

December 15th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Technology

kngine logoKngine is a new semantic search engine and Question Answer Engine rolled into one to provide meaningful search results. Its aim is to give smart information by understanding the meaning behind a search query. There are a lot of words and expressions that have multiple-meanings. What Kngine is trying to do is discover such words and provide meaningful information about the referred concepts. It figures out what you’re actually looking for and return search results that it entirely related to your question or query.

Kngine can understand queries like: ‘Brad Bitt Movies, Microsoft Companies Acquired, Football Players, Movies, Museums, Walter Gropius works, Authors’ and provide list of concepts with photos. You can do comparisons between two or many things by simply using ordinary keyword combinations. For example, you can just search in a natural way like “iPhone 3G vs iPhone 3GS” or “Ukraine GDP vs Romania GDP.”

There are many search challenges that Kngine wants to address. Aside from being a semantic search engine, Kngine also wants to provide its users with answers to questions and not only provide search results that contain the keywords stated in a particular question query.

Kngine can’t answer any questions, but I work to enhance this ability by improve the question understanding algorithms, and collect and organize more systematic knowledge and experiences.

Kngine Features

• Perception words have multiple-meanings.

• Smart Information.

• Concept List (List of things).

• Answer your questions.

• Comparisons.

• Update Information (Weather, Stock, Currency Price, and Sport Matches Results).

• Link the data, and view direct data.

The goal is to help solve frustrations involved in planning free-time activities while providing a superior search experience for those in need of travel information.

Our goal is to stop the madness and eliminate the need to hop around to multiple Web sites and sort through information that’s often incomplete and/or irrelevant or hard to find.

How to use:

You will be provided with three drop down boxes. Simply click the dropdowns and tell Goby “What” you want to do, the location of your activity/vacation (where) and the time you want to do it (when). The “What” dropdown lets you select from a category of activities – from food and drinks to sightseeing and tours. The Where dropdown displays a map that you can use to pinpoint the location where you want to do the activity you chose on the What dropdown. Lastly, you can place a date or select from a pre listed time on when you want to do your activity.

On the results page, you’ll see several activities that are appropriately ranked which are based on your initial input. There is also a map with a marker that you can move around on different location. Every time you move the marker, the results page will also change and give you activity recommendations that you can do near the location where you placed the marker.

Watch the Video demo.

Goby is a new and interesting way to search the web for travel and adventure activities. You can use the site to plan your next vacation with less stress. Bliipa: Social Search and Traditional Search Side-By-Side

August 15th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Technology

bliipaSocial media sites have been producing a large part of the content on the internet. The only problem is that most content produced by social media sites do not appear on search engines. It’s either that or search engines like Google and Yahoo are having a hard time keeping up with the updates made by popular social media sites.

Blippa is a search solution that combines traditional search from search and real-time social search. Instead of mixing the search results from a search engine with results from social media sites, the application prefers to display them side by side. On the left side of the results page, you’ll see the results from different social media sites and social networking sites. The middle part of the page displays the traditional search results.

The search engine is powered by Yahoo for the traditional search. The real time social search results are powered by Boss, Twitter, Technorati, FriendFeed, YouTube and Digg. There are quite a number of alternative search engines that you can test and check out. Blippa is one of those search engines who believes that they can make search a better experience for everyone by combining social search, which is the trend nowadays, with traditional search.
