The Easiest way to Share Live Screens with Anybody

September 27th, 2011 | Comments Off | Posted in Tips N Tricks

If you happen to acquire help from your friends who you think know more about computers than you, or if you want to help a computer challenged friend in need, this web app might come in handy.

The web app is called Quick Screen Share. To use it simply select Your Screen if you’re the one in need of help and Their Screen if you want to gain access to a friend’s computer to help him/her. The next step is to type in your name so that your friend will recognize you and vice versa.

Once you click start you’ll be provided with a one time use URL that you can copy and send to your friend. Once they load the URL, they (or you – depending on who sent the link) will see the app starting up. Once the connection is made, a window showing your friend’s computer screen will appear and you can control it from your computer (or the other way around).

The next time you need help from a friend, make his life easier by using apps like Quick Screen Share. This will get him/her to fix whatever problem faster. You can also use the app to easily collaborate with anybody. Especially those instances that requires you to show what you’re working on.

March 21st, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Technology

mikogo-logoMikogo is another cross platform tool that you can use to organize online meetings. The tool is available for Windows platform and  Mac OS-X platform. Being new to the business, the Mac platform still lacks some features that are originally available to PC version. That being said, both platform users can access the essential tools needed to be productive in their online collaboration.

The tool is very lightweight and easy to configure. Just sign up for an account, download the Mikogo client, and you can immediately begin sharing your screen to your associates. This is great for online presentations, tutorials and cross platform troubleshooting.

What Mikogo is offering?

Windows Mac
Screen Sharing Screen Sharing
Switch Presenters Switch Presenters
Participant Pointer Participant Pointer
Remote Control Remote Control
Pause Transmission Pause Transmission

The software is not perfect and there are some usability issues that I’ve encountered. Some parts of the interface could use some improvements but they’re just to my preference and nothing too major. The important thing is that it works, it’s lightweight, useful and free.

*Mikogo can also be used with Skype through the Mikogo Skype Extra. You can learn more about this on their website.

WizHelp: Online Remote Screen Sharing Tool

November 15th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

WizHelp is a free to use service where you can create help center so that you can help friends or get them to help you with your computer. It supports all OS (other Linux Distros are coming soon) so compatibility is not a big deal.

Registration is needed to use the service. It is required for your security and to input an Identifier which you will use whenever you are going to access someone’s computer remotely. You can choose to take control of the computer or be the one to request or give control. There is also a view screen and share screen only option if you just want to show something to the other user. The chat feature which is common to applications like this is also available.

The service works even if you are behind a proxy so there should be no problem with that. You need to have the latest Java installed in your machine to make it work really fast. When it comes to security, you always have to explicitly agree to let someone take control of your computer. The service only works when you are on WizHelp. After logging out, nobody will be able to take control of your computer. Just don’t give someone you do not trust control over your computer and you should be fine.

Tools like these make it easier for people to fix simple computer problems/issues without going to the service repair shop. It can also be used to do tutorials remotely.
