AudioPal: Free Website Audio Service

September 2nd, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Tips N Tricks

audiopalAudioPal is a web service that allows you to record and publish audio using a number of methods. You can record audio through your phone, computer mic or computer keyboard. You can also upload a pre-existing audio file for quick publishing.

To record using your phone, just call the provided AudioPal number and enter the randomly generated passcode. There’s a phone number that’s available for US/Canada residents and one for International users. The next step is to preview your recorded audio and enter and email address where they can send you the link to your AudioPal recording.

Text to audio recording can be done by simply typing in your text on the input box. You are allowed to type-in up to 600 characters. After you’re done, just click the Say It button and let AudioPal do the rest. Since recording using your mic and uploading an existing audio file is very self explanatory, there’s no need to elaborate on how it’s done.

AudioPal is a free service and will not charge you a dime for using it. Regular phone charges will apply when you record using your phone. You will not be asked to register for an account. If you need the service, just head over to the AudioPal site and start recording. Only your email is required in order for you to retrieve your audio link.

ChirBit: Micro Podcasting Tool

July 10th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Technology

chirbitChirbit is a simple audio sharing tool that gives you the Twitter feel. The only difference is that instead of sharing snippets of text to your followers, you get to share audio files and recordings. Chirbit enables you to record, upload, listen, and share sound bites easily.

How long can a chirbit be?

You can record as long as you like. There is no 12 second limit. Then why is it called a Micro-Podcasting site? Maybe because it gives you the Twitter feeling when using it.

Chirbit can be used for Micropodcasts, Confessions, Jokes, Sound Effects, Apologies, Quotes, Music, Branching Fiction, etc. What is branching fiction? It is like a literary Exquisite corpse or like a choose your own adventure created by you and your friends. One person starts the story with a seed sentence and the next user continues it with the next sentence.

To start using Chirbit, all you need is a microphone for recording or an audio file (MP3, Wav) to upload. Of course, you’ll need to sign up for an account first. Don’t worry, the service is totally free and you can join the micro-podcasting community anytime. Chirbit also allows you to post your podcasts on Facebook, Twitter, Email, and RSS Feeds.

*You can also use iPhone Voice Memos to post to Chirbit. This feature is still on private beta. If you want to try it, contact the Chirbit team to gain access to the feature.

AudioBoo: iPhone Audio Blogging App

April 21st, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites

audiobooAudioBoo is an iPhone app that makes it possible to easily post audio blogs, called “boos,” from your iPhone. You can also play the “boos” posted by other members from your iPhone. Of course, there is also a web interface that allows everybody to hear the video blogs.

The web interface of the service gives you a Twitter feeling to it. Users can follow each other’s “boos.” The only thing that’s missing is the ability to reply to a particular audio post which would be very cool if the feature becomes available.

Embed codes are provided so that you can republish your AudioBoo to your blogs and social networking sites. AudioBoo can also automatically post a Facebook message when you publish a Boo. Just tell Facebook to give AudioBoo permission to do so.

This is a new way of publishing audio content online. It’s a great alternative to 140 character long micro blogging. I just wish that they’d make apps for other phones other than the iPhone. This will surely drive users to AudioBoo.
