Find Out how Companies are Tracking your Internet Browsing Activities and how to Prevent it

July 13th, 2011 | 1 Comment | Posted in Tips N Tricks

Collusion is a Firefox Add-on that lets you visually monitor how companies are tracking your browsing habits. If you’re not using Firefox or don’t have the plugin installed, you can still go to the Collusion page to learn through the demo of an interactive, real-time visualization of entities that track your behavior across the web.

By installing the plugin, you’ll be able to see the graph (similar to the demo…see pic) change in real-time based on the sites you visit on your browser.

Now that you are aware that companies are tracking your every move online, and you now know how they are doing it, you might want to put a stop to it. If you do, you can simply download and install another Firefox plugin called Trackerblock. The plugin is available for Firefox and Internet Explorer only. If you’re using Chrome, you might want to go look for an alternative.

MinFBook: A Chrome Plugin for a Minimalist Facebook

May 31st, 2011 | 1 Comment | Posted in Tips N Tricks

Do you hate how Facebook look? Want to try minimalizing the pages in such a way that it would suit your preference? There’s an easy way to customize how you see Facebook through a Chrome plugin called MinFBook (Minimalist for Facebook). It is a personalized solution for those who are tired of useless and distracting elements in the Facebook interface. You can Individually hide almost 50 interface elements, custom colors, and more…

With MinFbook you can simplify Facebook without losing practicality. I’m a big fan of the minimal the web, But sometimes, when minimalism steps in, the practicality of a particular web product is diminished. By using the plugin, you can select which features will appear and which ones will stay hidden. It actually doesn’t automatically do all the work for you. You have to choose which ones will stay by editing the plugin settings. It removes as much or as little as you want. It also adds functionality if you so choose. Just remember that the plugin will only work on your browser, the Chrome browser in particular, and will only affect how you see Facebook. It doesn’t alter your Facebook account in any way. Your Facebook friends will still see your profile the same as everybody else see theirs.

Wibiya Integrates Social Media to Blogs

June 9th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Blog Tips

wibiyaWibiya is a blogging tool that lets you integrate social media services to your blog in the form of a toolbar that appears on the bottom of any browser. The beta service offers a fixed set of tools (for now) such as creating a blog community via Facebook connect, Twitter alert integration, Flickr gallery viewer and some basic blogging tools such as random post browser, blog search, RSS subscription and recent post previews. More applications and features will be added through time which includes integrating widgets and applications of your choice.

Wibiya can easily be installed on different blogging platforms. WordPress users can enjoy the service by just installing a plugin. Blogger users can easily add a widget to their blogs while TypePad and other blog platform users can install Wibiya via HTML code.

The toolbar is customizable to a certain extent. You can choose different color schemes that will complement your blog theme. You can also remove applications or tools that you don’t want to appear on your Wibiya toolbar.

This is a great tool for bloggers who are looking for ways to integrate their site(s) with different social media services. It also helps avoid the cluttering of sidebars in case you want to integrate different social media sites through widgets. The toolbar is unobtrusive. It sits nicely on the bottom of the browser and visitors can easily hide it if she/he wishes to. The service also allows you to post site-wide live notifications for your readers/visitors which will nicely serve different purposes such as event announcements, contests or updates.

LinkWithin: A New Related Post Widget for Blogs

March 27th, 2009 | 4 Comments | Posted in Blog Tips

link-withinAre you looking for a blog widget to further increase your page views? One way of increasing page views on your blog is to offer related reading. This gives the readers an opportunity to have a glimpse of your other articles. You can install several scripts or plugins (depending on your blog platform) to feature your other posts.

LinkWithin is another related stories/articles widget that you can use on your blog. What makes it different from other plugins/widgets is that it comes with a photo thumbnail. The widget is minimally styled to blend in with your site design. The widget is free and ad-free. It will only take you just a couple of minutes to get the widget up and running on your blog. It works on most blogging platform such as WordPress, Blogger and Typepad and you will not be required to sign or register in order to use the widget.

I only get to test it on a WordPress blog and I must say that it looks great. The only thing that I am concerned with when I installed the plugin is that (as of now) it doesn’t give you any customization option. It displays 3 sets of related posts on each of my pages. It would be great if I am, as a user, is allowed to limit the number of Link Within widgets set on my blog. This will allow blog owners to target where their related posts will appear on their pages.

If ever you want to try something new on your blog, Link Within might be the widget that you’re looking for. As of now, it’s not for me. I’ll be patiently waiting for further development of its WordPress plugin. Goodluck guys.

Juice: Content Recommendation Plugin for Firefox

November 8th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Blog Tips, Technology

Juice is a Firefox browser plugin that functions as a recommendation tool which will help you find related content immediately without searching other websites. This will enhance your browsing experience by using this very cool plugin. You can access the information right on your Firefox sidebar.

With Juice, you can drag text and media on your sidebar for you to use later. Embeddable media can be easily added to your Juice sidebar for later viewing. All you need to do is scroll over the media, wait for the “drag me” button to appear and click or just drag it a bit. You do not have to drag it all the way to the sidebar. The same procedure is also true for texts and images but with no “drag-me” button.

This is a great plugin for researchers and bloggers who wants to get related information quickly. Juice can save you a lot of time when doing research and looking for related web content about anything. The application is quite new and their recommendation engine still lacks knowledge. It will be up to the users so that Juice can continue to learn and deliver better related results.

Watch the Plugin in action below.

Blog Tip: You might also want to try the Zemanta recommendation tool for Firefox.
