Online Business Card Maker from DeGraeve

April 10th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in Cool Sites

Here is a cool site where you can make a simple business card with a logo and your information. The DeGraeve Business Card Maker tool is very easy to use. Just get a link of your logo image and place it in the “URL of Logo image” text box. A size of 300 to 600 pixels in height and width is recommended for the logo for it no to look crappy and images larger than the said size will break the business card maker. It is also noted that the logo maker works best with images on a white background, but this is not necessarily a rule. After choosing the logo, select a font for the text that will appear in your business card, enter your name or company name and your information on the text box supplied, then choose which font style you want for a specific line.

The Business card maker will give you a PDF file of the generated business card for you to download. You can then print your cards on letter sized paper and then cut them by trimming .25 inch from the edge of each side of the printout and then cut the cards to 3.5 in x 2 in. You’ll get 12 cards to a page.

This is a useful web app for people who want a quick, simple and easy to make a business card without the use of desktop software. The service is free and online. I have provided a sample of the generated business card below.

Online Image Editing and More from Aviary

April 3rd, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in Cool Sites

I just got my invite from Aviary (Private Beta) and finally got to test it. Aviary is an online service which caters different kinds of media editing and creating applications for artists of all genres from images, typography, music, 3D and video. Compared to Adobe’s Photoshop Express which is more of a photo enhancement tool, Aviary’s image editing tool called Phoenix gives more freedom to the user when it comes to image editing and creating from scratch. There are lots of editing tools to choose from which are essential for an editing job like layers and brushes. I must say that this online editor is far more advanced than other online editing applications that I have used and tested. You can check out the video below to see the Phoenix Image Editor in action.

There is another application in Aviary that I am excited to see. It is not available yet so I guess we have to wait until it is out. The service is called Dodo, the web based time machine. This is a new tool which will allow you to age and de-age people, places and things from any browser with Flash 9 enabled. They released a video trailer to see the app in action and I find it very interesting. Check it out below.

This two are just but a portion of what Aviary is offering. I have a few invites left (contact me or post it in the comments for an invite) which is restricted to image editing because that is what I signed up for. You can request an early bird invitation in their site if you want to check out other services that fits your taste.

Discover and Listen to Music According to your Mood

April 2nd, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Cool Sites

Musicovery InterfaceMusicovery is a cool web radio app that lets you discover and listen to music according to your mood settings. You can choose from Energetic, Calm, Dark and Positive moods or set the mood somewhere in between to display a more balanced mood selection. The service also allows you to balance your selection according to tempo and dance level. You can also toggle the genre checkbox to narrow down the displayed selection according to your favorite genre(s) and select a decade to filter the songs that are released in a specific time period.

Whenever you make a change in the control panel, Musicovery will display a different set of songs which fits your settings. The songs are displayed in a mindmap interface and are color coded according to genre. There is no registration required in order to listen to music, however, signing up in their free service will allow you to rate a song and add them to your favorites list in your account and ban a song from ever showing up again in your selections. The free service only allows you to listen to LoFi (Low Fidelity) songs and you have to cash out four dollars a month in order to listen to songs in HiFi (High Fidelity). A link to Amazon, Itunes and Ebay is also provided on the side of each playing music control panel just in case you want to buy the album of the playing track.

Musicovery is a cool and unique place to discover music online. The service does not offer a quick song or artist search. You have to go to sites like SeeqPod for that. So, if you are up listening to music in a different way check out Musicovery and let the music hit your mood.

Get 50 Gigabytes Free Online File Storage Space

March 25th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Cool Sites

There are lots of services that offer free file storage for anyone who feels the need to keep their data online, rather than bringing an external file storage with them. It has its downside though, you have to have an internet connection to access the file you want to retrieve. Still, it is a good precaution to make just in case you experience hardware failure. I always tell people to backup their documents to their web emails, but for files much bigger than 10MB, a good and reliable online file storage service can also be recommended.

adrive.jpgADrive is a company that offers people up to 50 Gigabytes of free storage. This is by far the biggest space a free file storage service has offered. The company boasts a lot of key technology features to ensure you that your data is safe, among them are: of course a climate controlled data center with advanced cooling technologies for their servers, the most current snapshot technology is routinely scheduled to ensure that your data is protected, they also boast redundancy on all levels to ensure our backend infrastructure is completely fault-tolerant, from climate and power to software and hardware redundancy (this means that your data and their hardware and software are backed up into multiple levels). They also utilize load balancers to distribute high traffic on their site. This will balance the bandwidth to ensure good connection even if the site is highly trafficked at a given time.

The site is very user friendly with a nice and neat interface and it lets you upload up to two (2) gigabytes per file. What I like most and find interesting about this service is its ability to grab and store a remote file from a URL. Just place the URL of the file you want to save to ADrive and they will get if for you so you can save it for later. You can also add a username and password if the file URL you want to grab is inside a protected or secure site. This will come in handy if the file you want to save is uploaded in the internet for a limited time or you can use this if you are worried that the host will go down due to overloading or if you don’t want to download it in your computer right away. For whatever reason you may have for using an online storage service, this one surely beats other services.

Mytopia: Inter Social Network Gaming

March 24th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Games

We all have our favorite social networking site. With so many out there, it’s hard to choose which one works for a particular person with particular social networking need. Third party applications for these social sites are widely available. Some are exclusive and some supports different social networking platforms. An example of apps that supports different social platforms is My Mini Life.

mytopia-facebook.jpg

mytopia.jpgMytopia is an online gaming application that supports different social networking sites. It currently supports FaceBook, Bebo and MySpace. What makes the game unique is that instead of playing with your friends in your network, it lets you play with people from other networking sites mentioned above. While logged into MySpace, you can challenge Facebook and Bebo users with a game of poker or with other games available in Mytopia.

There a handful of games that you can play in Mytopia. You can play Video Poker, Backgammon, Bingo, Chess, Dominoes, Sodoku and a few more which are currently unavailable or under construction. The service is still in public beta stage so you can expect a few bugs on the games and unavailable features. Other than that, it is very functional and its ability to let you play with people from different (3 as of now) social networking sites makes it worth checking out.

Convert HTM to PDF

March 14th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites

htm2pdflogo.gifHere is another conversion tool that will convert HTM to PDF file easily and quickly (HTM2PDF). Just type in the URL of the website you want to convert to PDF then you can download the PDF file. It’s just as easy as that. This free service is a much simpler from of PDF online which converts any document to PDF (including html) and Media Convert which converts almost all media. This particular tool focuses only on converting HTM to PDF. The only thing that I noticed with this particular tool is that when it converts blogs to PDF, it is as if it took a screenshot of your blog and saved it to PDF. Not like the above mentioned PDF online which will display the posts first then the sidebar will be seen at the bottom of the PDF file. You can also choose to include flash movies to your PDF file and Make links active in the document.

 htm2pdf.png

You can also take a peek on what website others have recently converted using HTM2PDF. They have a gallery of converted websites if you want to check them out first before trying the service. It looks great and almost a loseless conversion if you’re counting ads. It does not convert java scripts so expect to not get most ads converted to PDF.
