Sleep.FM: Your Online Social Alarm Clock

March 25th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites

sleep-fmTired of waking up on the annoying ring of your alarm clock? Check out Sleep.FM. Instead of waking up on a wake up tune that you set on your alarm clock or mobile phone, you can now wake up and be informed about the weather condition on your area flight status, birthday wishes, go back to sleep messages and more.

With Sleep.FM, you can setup multiple alarms for the day. It also allows you to choose from a male or female voice to wake you up. Since the alarm clock is online, if your internet goes down, they will play a back-up alarm for you so you will not have to worry about oversleeping when your internet service goes down. I’m still not sure how effective the online alarm clock when your computer hangs or your browser crashes but this is surely an interesting concept.

Sleep.FM can be useful in setting up alarms when you are working on your computer. You can set alarms for specific tasks to help you improve your online productivity.

New Sleep.FM features:

• Today’s Forecast that covers your weather conditions for the next 12 hours.

• Suggestion in various weather announcements, regarding what you need for the day; umbrella or boots!

• Location detection based upon your IP address; no zip code entry needed!

• Added an additional voice – a familiar radio voice who is heard in all major US markets.

DropBox: Sync and Share a Folder

September 20th, 2008 | 4 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

DropBox is a very interesting online file hosting/sharing service which allows you to sync your online account with your computer. It’s like having a folder on your computer which is always online.

To start using DropBox, just download their desktop application which works on Windows, Mac and Linux. Install the application and you can begin creating your DropBox account and sync it with a folder in your computer. The process just takes a few minutes and the instructions are very easy to follow so you should encounter no problems installing it.

Uploading files to your DropBox account is a snap. Just drag the file(s) to the linked folder on your PC/Mac and it will automatically update/sync with your online account. Any change that you make on the files in your local folder will be automatically synchronized with your online account.

DropBox also protects your files from unfortunate circumstances. If you happen to accidentally delete a file(s) from your local folder, you can still access those deleted files and restore them in your online account in the web interface. It’s like having your own online recycle bin in DropBox.

You can easily share individual files to your friends through a URL that is created for each of your files so there should be no problem for you linking them to blogs and websites and handing them out in emails and IMs. Folders can be shared by inviting friends through email so they can access those folders in their desktop. Anything that you place in the shared folder will be visible to friends who have accepted your invitation and vice-versa.

DropBox will give you a total of 2GB of hardrive space for your online account. It’s not much if you’re thinking on uploading ripped movies or thousands of songs to your DropBox account but there should be enough space for medium quality photos, documents and small files.

Sell Your Original Digital Art Online at GraphicLeftovers

June 5th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites

At some point, most of us have played with Photoshop, Illustrator, Aviary or any other image editing software available to us, trying to be creative and producing our own digital art. Some might create an image for a specific purpose, maybe for an online project like a web design, while some just wanted to express themselves through digital art. Whatever your reason for creating your digital work of art may be, I’m sure that if you are keeping them safe in a folder somewhere in your hard drive, those digital pieces of art possesses considerable amount of value to you. Some might actually have tried selling them online but never really got the chance to fully market those wonderful pieces of artwork. Instead of leaving them, dusting in your hard drive, there is actually a place online where you can sell or donate your original graphic art.

GraphicLeftovers is a web service that lets you sell or donate your unused, unsold, or unfairly rejected pieces of art online. They sell logos, Icons, Illustrations, Digital Art, Templates and they also offer free font downloads.

The buying and selling system is managed through virtual credits. A logo can sell for as low as three (3) credits and go as high as ten (10) creds. Credits will automatically go to your account upon purchase of your digital art. You can use those credits to purchase other images or exchange them for cash. Users can also purchase GraphicLeftovers credits. The pricing is shown in the image below.

GraphicLeftovers is created by a graphic designer who owns over 250 Gigabytes of unused images and a hotshot programmer who is responsible for the website. This is a great site for illustrators, designers and anyone who wants to test their creativity, to sell their work on the web. It can also be a starting ground for aspiring graphic artists and those who are already in the market and want to get more exposure.

Watch 3000 Free Live Stream TV Channels Online

May 27th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in Cool Sites

OnlineTVChannels is a live streaming video aggregator which currently delivers about three thousand (3000) TV channels from more than seventy (70) different countries around the world right into your browser. There are many websites that caters a service like this one but OnlineTVChannels has the biggest collection of channels that I have ever seen.

This is a pretty cool site to bookmark. If you are too busy doing stuff in front of your computer and wants a quick break and watch some TV. People taking a vacation or working abroad can also use sites like OnlineTVChannels for viewing their local channels wherever they are in the world (as long as they have internet of course). The website supports Windows Medial Player, Flash and QuickTime plugins for their videos, so be sure to have those plugins installed for the video streams to work in your browsers. Most of the channels streams well while others are lagging. It is not clear which bandwidth is OnlineTVChannels using since they are a video aggregator site so I guess it is good to assume that the streaming speed will also depend on the original site hosting the videos. You do not have to register to start watching. Registration is only needed if you want to comment.
