Tinkatolli: A Computer Game that Encourages Kids to Leave their Computers

July 19th, 2011 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites

Tinkatolli is an online virtual game for kids. We all know that there are a fair amount of quality game sites just for kids, sites that encourage learning and creativity while having fun. So, you might be wondering what makes Tinkatolli any different? Well, aside from the fact that Tinkatolli is a great place online for kids to learn and have fun, it is also the first computer game that encourages kids to leave their computers.

Aside from the usual social networking feature for kids, educational games, and creative online activities, Tinkatolli wants to inspire kids to play offline. The kids can upload photos of them playing or exercising outside and get points that will help them progress in the game.

Since, creativity is one of the most important aspects of the game, Tinkatolli made “Tinkamaker.” It’s an avatar maker where the kids can design their own unique “Tinkas” in Tinkamaker. All the Tinkas are featured in the Tinkatolli’s gallery. You can check them out and see how creative the kids are given the right tool.

Tinkatolli’s workshop also features stuff that the kids can make out of junks. And believe it or not, most of the things in the Tinkatolli workshop are designed by children. This is clearly a site for kids and powered by kids.

Currently, the site is in closed beta. I can’t wait for it to be open to the public.

Tutpup: A Social Learning Site for Kids

June 13th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Games

Tutpup is a social learning site where students and teachers can compete with each other by playing different educational games. The service focuses on helping children gain confidence and mastery of basic educational skills. A user may register as a teacher or as a student. Teachers can let students join the class through a class code that the teacher provided. The service is free for any child to use and children can only participate with their parent or guardian’s approval.

A user can choose to play a game of Math, Maths Mix, Spelling and TimeTables. Upon choosing which game to play, the user can wait for another player to accept the challenge or he/she can instantly play a game with a random player in the network. Each game category comes in different levels of difficulty (from level 1 [Easy Peasy] to level 8[Area 51]).

The Graduation page shows your progress through the games and levels. You need to answer 10 correct questions in 3 games to graduate to the next level. The win wall page displays the triumphs of a user over another player. This will provide motivation for young children to master different educational skills through competition. Tutpup can be a valuable tool for teachers who are looking for additional learning tool for students. It’s a fun way of teaching and a fun way of learning.

Social Networking Site for Kids

December 28th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in Cool Sites

It has been said that 2007 is the year of Facebook. But with social networking sites popping out of nowhere with fresh concepts like My Mini Life, it is uncertain who will make it big this coming 2008.

moshimonsters.jpg

Moshi Monsters is a fresh new networking site which targets kids of all ages. Created by Mind Candy who specializes in the development of new types of multi-player online games recently launched the Moshi Monster world.

Our intention when creating Moshi Monsters was to a produce a ground breaking new entertainment experience that would be fun, safe and educational for kids of all ages.

Moshi Monsters is played by adopting a monster and looking after it. The kids will care for the monsters by solving puzzle games which will earn their monster virtual rewards. The kids can spend their virtual money called Rox on virtual items like food, furniture and other treats or toys for their monster. Even though it can be branded as an online game, education is also important for the creators of the game. Every day your child’s monster will create a series of fun puzzles that test everything from vocabulary and arithmetic to logic and spatial skills.

We all know that social networking has its dangers, especially to children. So, to protect your kids from harm while using Moshi Monsters, the site only offers limited social networking features. After receiving a request from a child to register, an email will be sent to the parent. Only after the parent approves the request can the child invite friends into his or her network. In-game communication is also limited and can only be done with the use of message content pre-determined from a phrase list that they provide.
