Live Feed of Images from The Best Camera iPhone App

November 6th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Technology

the best cameraWhat is the best camera? The Best Camera is the One That’s With You. This is what The Best Camera celebrates, photography with any camera. As of now, they are focused on the iPhone. The website features a live feed of images taken by iPhones using The Best Camera App. Created by world-renowned photographer, Chase Jarvis, TBC is divided into a three part “ecosystem” – an iPhone app, a book and an online community.

The Best Camera Book provides inspiration in shooting with any camera and seeing the world around you. This the world’s first book made entirely with images shot on the iPhone.

The iPhone App allows you to shoot, edit and share your images.

The online community streams live feeds of iPhone images from around the world.

This is a great app and tool to express yourself through photos taken from your iPhone. It would be great if The Best Camera will support other camera and camera phones as well. Since it stands for celebrating photography taken with any camera and not everyone owns an iPhone, it should probably feature photos taken by different cameras.

FaceInHole: Put Your Face in Different Scenarios

October 7th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites, Design

FaceinHoleFaceInHole is a web application that lets you put your face in different images with different scenarios. You can place your face on top of someone else’s to create a whole new image that’s all you. It’s like one of those scenario boards that you see on tourist spots and theme parks where you get to put your face in a hole and get your picture taken as if you are included in the original work of art or scenario picture.

In order to use the service, you’ll only need a photo of you or your friends to work with. You can also use your webcam to take a snapshot of yourself and immediately import it in any FaceinHole Scenarios. You can select from their collection of scenarios with blank faces and simply drag your photo on the image scenario. You can also adjust the size of the face and rotate it so that it will fit the hole. The brightnessm contrast, hue and saturation of the face can be adjusted in order to make your FaceinHole scenario look flawless.

If you don’t see any scenarios that interest you, you can simply create your own by uploading a scenario image that you want to use. The scenario editor lets you cut the portion of the image according to your preference. You can easily move the points on the selection tool of the editor to take out the portion where the face will be placed.

Instead of spending time manipulating images in order to place your face on top of someone else’s, you can use FaceinHole and accomplish the task in just a matter of seconds. You can play with your photos and try something different with it or you can have some fun with your friends’ photos and surprise them by placing their faces on different scenarios.

Okimok: iPhone Photo Streaming App

April 29th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Technology

okimokOkimok is an online social photo streaming service that allows you to upload photos from your iPhone and share them with everyone. The service is for iPhone users only if you are going to upload photos, but non-iPhone users can also sign-up, follow other users and view their photo streams.

If you are expecting that Okimok is a photo host for your iPhone captured moments, you are mistaken. The service only allows you to stream up to 15 photos in your solo stream. Older photos will automatically be deleted to update your stream. The purpose of this is to see what your friends are doing right now. You can think of it as your most recent 15 photos stream update of your life. There’s also the combo stream, which shows the latest 30 photos of all the friends you’re following. It’s like having a personal home theater of your friend’s adventures.

Okimok is an interesting service for streaming photos and sharing them with your friends through your iPhone. Just be careful on uploading photos because you cannot delete individual photos. However, you can ask them to delete all your photos from your photo stream or just upload more photos to overwrite the previous ones. Have fun streaming.

AudioBoo: iPhone Audio Blogging App

April 21st, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites

audiobooAudioBoo is an iPhone app that makes it possible to easily post audio blogs, called “boos,” from your iPhone. You can also play the “boos” posted by other members from your iPhone. Of course, there is also a web interface that allows everybody to hear the video blogs.

The web interface of the service gives you a Twitter feeling to it. Users can follow each other’s “boos.” The only thing that’s missing is the ability to reply to a particular audio post which would be very cool if the feature becomes available.

Embed codes are provided so that you can republish your AudioBoo to your blogs and social networking sites. AudioBoo can also automatically post a Facebook message when you publish a Boo. Just tell Facebook to give AudioBoo permission to do so.

This is a new way of publishing audio content online. It’s a great alternative to 140 character long micro blogging. I just wish that they’d make apps for other phones other than the iPhone. This will surely drive users to AudioBoo.

TinEye: The Reverse Image Search Engine

March 30th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Technology

tineyeTinEye is a new search engine that exactly does the opposite of how you normally search for images. Instead of using keywords to search for images and hoping that the one who uploaded them wasn’t too lazy to tag them, you can do an image search using another image. Things just got a little easier, well, sort of.

tineye-search

TinEye may be used to find similar images to the ones you have. You can upload an image (or paste an image URL) and TinEye will do an image comparison using their image identification technology similar to the ones that you only get to see on CSI. Pretty cool huh! The search engine will display results similar to your images. As of now, their index is still small but it is continuing to grow and may become extremely useful in the future.

When you submit an image to be searched, TinEye creates a unique and compact digital signature or ‘fingerprint’ for it, then compares this fingerprint to every other image in our index to retrieve matches. TinEye can even find a partial fingerprint match.

TinEye does not typically find similar images (i.e. a different image with the same subject matter); it finds exact matches including those that have been cropped, edited or resized.

I believe that the TinEye search engine has a lot of potential and they are doing a great job with the image identification technology. I just wished that users are also allowed to do images searches the old fashion way. This will add more functionality to it by allowing the users to search for tagged images and use the image identification system to find similar images. I’m looking forward to the development of the software and perhaps develop it to search with keywords (like we normally do) and recognize the images through those keywords even if those images aren’t tagged.

tineye-music-loginiPhone users can also use TinEye to search for music through images. Just take a snapshot of the album art or grab them from somewhere on the web and let TinEye’s image identification system to do the work for you. It will give you links for that album on iTunes, allmusic.com, YouTube, and Wikipedia. No need to type the artist, album name or song title.

Whether you are doing research or having a little fun playing image detective, TinEye is worth checking out.
