Free File Hosting for RAR Files

July 28th, 2008 | 4 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

RarHost is a free hosting service focused on hosting RAR files. RAR is the native format of WinRAR archiver. What makes RarHost so great is that you can actually view the content of the RAR file before making a download. This will give the user the ability to scout the inside of the compressed file for malicious wares that might me included in the RAR file.

The service offers unlimited hosting for RAR files as long as it is below 350MB per file. If your file is larger than 350 MB you have to split it in order to upload it in RarHost. Files uploaded by non members will only be hosted for 30 days on inactivity. Members will be given 2 months of non download activity before the file is removed from the database.

Registration is quick and free so I see no reason for uploading files as a non member. Members can access the file URL anytime in their dashboards and can manage uploaded files a lot quicker by taking advantage of the monitoring service. You can check how many times your RAR files have been downloaded. The uploader also has the ability to delete the files that he/she uploaded in RarHost. A special file URL will be available to the uploader for quick sharing to friends. You can also set a password to the uploaded file if you wish. This is great if the file you are sharing is only for specific downloaders.

There are many free file hosting services available online where you can also upload RAR files. The only thing is that the other user, which is the downloader, will never know what is in that file until the download is finished. RarHost provides literally more transparency when it comes to viewing the contents of the uploaded compressed files.

Create your Own Mobile Page using Jag.ag

July 1st, 2008 | 4 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

Jag.ag is a free web application where you can easily create a simple online page optimized for mobile browsing. The service is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor that lets you design and upload a mobile page with ease.

The editor is very easy to use and the layout is very simple. Personalization of the created pages will be reflected only once the personal images are uploaded. Jag.ag allows you upload up to three images. You will be allowed to create your own subdomain under the jag.ag domain. Once you have registered, you will be given up to thirty (30) free SMS credits that you can use to invite friends to your mobile page.

This is a simple solution for people who want to create a personal mobile page without going to the trouble of registering domains and coding a mobile based website. It can also be useful for promoting other online sites through the use of the mobile page or just having simple fun with it by creating your own personal mobile page. There is just one little thing I’ve noticed when I tested the service. I can’t seem to place link tags using the editor. I have emailed the team and asked them about the placement of links in the mobile page. Maybe I’ll get a reply in the next day or two. It would have been great if they allowed links to be placed on the personal mobile page.

Anyway, it’s quite a cool and simple service that you might want to check out and have some mobile fun with.

Download YouTube Videos Using ExtractYouTube

May 28th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

ExtractYouTube is a simple YouTube Video search and download website. You can use their site to search for YouTube videos that you want to download or just paste the URL of the YouTube video in their search bar to begin the download immediately. There are other websites that offer the same service plus format conversion. The only thing is that most of them are slow and fails in the process of conversion.

ExtractYouTube is simple fast and readily available for use in any browser. If you want to convert the video into another format, there are lots of websites out there offering a fast service for this. I would recommend Media Convert for this task. It’s fast, reliable and the best part of all, it’s free. Sometimes it’s better to use a service that focuses on a particular task than use a service that offers several tasks rolled into one.

Note: You might also want to try using FreeMusicZilla for your YouTube downloads. It’s an online music stream downloader which also works on YouTube and other video streaming sites.

Watch 3000 Free Live Stream TV Channels Online

May 27th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in Cool Sites

OnlineTVChannels is a live streaming video aggregator which currently delivers about three thousand (3000) TV channels from more than seventy (70) different countries around the world right into your browser. There are many websites that caters a service like this one but OnlineTVChannels has the biggest collection of channels that I have ever seen.

This is a pretty cool site to bookmark. If you are too busy doing stuff in front of your computer and wants a quick break and watch some TV. People taking a vacation or working abroad can also use sites like OnlineTVChannels for viewing their local channels wherever they are in the world (as long as they have internet of course). The website supports Windows Medial Player, Flash and QuickTime plugins for their videos, so be sure to have those plugins installed for the video streams to work in your browsers. Most of the channels streams well while others are lagging. It is not clear which bandwidth is OnlineTVChannels using since they are a video aggregator site so I guess it is good to assume that the streaming speed will also depend on the original site hosting the videos. You do not have to register to start watching. Registration is only needed if you want to comment.

Easy Online 125×125 Card Creator from Free125Cards

May 21st, 2008 | 6 Comments | Posted in Design

Free125Cards is a web tool, created by Simon and Marie of VividLamp, which lets you easily create a 125×125 px card. This is an excellent tool that you can use for your website or blog’s advertisement purposes, logos, avatars, or for whatever you can think of using the card for.

The Free125Card card editor is very noob proof. You don’t have to think of a background design for your card. They are already provided in the website for you to choose from. The background designs are originally and creatively made by the Free125Cards team. All you have to worry about is the font you are going to use for your text in the card. The text can easily be resized and moved as soon as it hits the background card image that you have chosen.

You can also share your creativity to others by contributing your own uniquely designed 125 cards (using their editor) and submitting them so that others can use it. The submitted cards will be showcased in the website and you will be given credit and a link to your site. This is will give you a chance to promote your blog, explore your creativity and help others at the same time.

125×125 cards are the most common advertising tool used by bloggers, and not everyone can Photoshop their way into a decent 125 card. Free125Cards will be a great help for anyone who wants a fresh-looking and nicely-designed 125 card made in just a couple of minutes.
