A Fun Way to Learn a New Language for Free

August 18th, 2011 | Comments Off | Posted in Tips N Tricks

The first step in learning a new language is word familiarization. In other words, you need to learn the basic vocabulary. You need to associate a word with its meaning, thus familiarizing yourself with the different basic words of the foreign language that you have chosen to learn. But sometimes, even the very basic words are quite easy to forget especially if you’re just a beginner. Well, Memrise will help you with that endeavor.

Memrise, in their own words, is the fastest and most enjoyable way to learn words in any language. In my experience, it’s pretty accurate. They actually make word-learning fast and enjoyable. The guys at Memrise devised a system that assures you that you’ll not forget the new words that you’ve learned. Plus, they promise to make you learn five times faster than other methods.

We’ve taken the very best science of learning and combined it with engaging, playful design to make word-learning fun, fast and exceedingly effective.

Memrise’s learning process is compared to a plant, which is what you’ll really see in your account once you’ve signed up. Once you’ve learned a new word, Memrise will visualize it as a newly planted seed which needs to be watered by testing yourself every now and then. The browser and Memrise’s website is your virtual greenhouse where you nurture your seed/plant. Your knowledge of a new language can either wither or grow. It’s up to you if you want to grow from greenhouse to a full garden once you’ve mastered the language that you’ve chosen.

Check out Memrise and see if that language that you’re willing to learn is there. If it’s not, you can suggest a language that you wish to learn.

FileSwap: Give a File Get One Free

January 5th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites

fileswap-logoFileSwap is a file sharing service which is done in a unique fashion. It functions as a place to exchange files. The only difference is that the file that you receive is a surprise. It’s a fun way of sharing files and getting them. It’s a give and take deal.

File-swap.com is meant to be fun. It acts as a big black box. You put in one file and you will receive a different file in exchange which someone swaped earlier. If many users swap cool files many other users recieve cool files.

The current file size limit is only 500KB which is big enough for a decent holiday photo or a resized artwork that you made in Photoshop or other image editors. Aside from image files, you can also send text files, PDFs and audio files. Archives (Rar, Zip files) and executable files are not allowed. You can also rate the files that you receive whether it is good or bad. This will determine if the file is worthy of sharing or not.

To be able to download files from FileSwap, your web browser has to support Javascript and Session Cookies (cookies which expire as soon as you close the web browser). If one of these is not enabled you will not be able to download anything.

This is a cool and fun way to share your files with others. Getting something unexpected is the fun part.

PiccDrop: A quick Image Sharing Tool

November 26th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

PiccDrop is one of those image hosting sites that lets you upload images in a flash with no questions asked. No questions, meaning that no signing up, no create an account whatsoever. All you need is an image to upload, and then you’ll get your image URL from PiccDrop.

Unlike other quick image hosts, PicDrop made it clear that as long as you’re not uploading images with adult content, they are guaranteed to last forever, well, as long as PiccDrop lasts anyway. You also get to upload large images (up to 6MB in size). That’s a pretty sweet deal for a free service if you ask me. Oh, another great thing about the service is that it accepts almost all image format known to man.

(note: if piccdrop ever stops allowing users to upload images – we don’t plan to – we will continue to keep your images hosted on the site and will still allow direct hotlinking.)

If ever you are in need of a photo/image host with no bandwidth limit, does not require logging in, supports all formats, no image size restrictions, you might want to check this baby out. It’s great for quick image sharing on forums, websites, IM’s and Twitter.

Simple File Hosting with 10GB Upload Size Limit

September 6th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

FileSavr is a simple service with a simple goal. That is to offer a simple file hosting and if you have a file as big as 10 Gigabytes to upload and share, you won’t have any problems with FileSavr. No registration is needed and you can upload right away as soon as you step on their homepage, although I see a sign up link in their homepage that displays a coming soon message when you click it.

Unlike the other sites, we do not force users to sign up for paid accounts to download files, we do not show long countdown timers, pop up ads, or any other spam related activities

This is a great alternative to file sharing sites such as RapidShare and other popular file hosting sites out there. They promise to keep your files until forever as long as they are being downloaded. I just have no idea on for how long they are going to keep your files if they have no download activity.
