ShareNLoad: Share and Download Large Files

May 20th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Tips N Tricks

sharenloadShareNLoad is another file host that lets you upload and download large files. The service can be used to send files that are too large for emails or as a temporary online/remote storage. Like any file storage service, you can upload any file type that you wish to share with someone.

The file host doesn’t really support mass sharing. You cannot search the site for uploaded files. The shared files can only be downloaded by someone who was given access by the uploader. The uploader of the file can set a password to protect the file from being downloaded by others. Once the file is accessed, the download page will be available to the downloader’s IP address for a few hours.

Deleting the uploaded file is as easy as accessing the delete link that is given to you when the file was uploaded. If in case you forgot to save the delete link, you can just wait for the file to expire and automatically deleted by ShareNLoad’s system. Premium user’s files are set to expire once their membership expires or after 60days from the last download
(whichever happens first).

Share.it: Temporary File Sharing Tool

December 31st, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Tips N Tricks

shareit-logoShare.it is a file hosting site which allows you to keep the files that you want to share online as long as it is active. Meaning, as long as there is somebody downloading your file, it will be kept in Share.it’s database.

The files that you upload in Share.it will be given a grace period of 15 (fifteen) days of inactivity and has a limit of 100MB in size. Upon reaching the number of days of being inactive, the file that you have uploaded using Share.it will automatically be deleted. I call it a temporary file sharing tool because of the expiration period.

Upon uploading your file, you will be given the file URL and two embed codes that you can use for websites and forums. There is also an email tool so that you can let your friends know about the file through email. Social buttons are also available so you can easily share the download page to social networking friends.

This can be used in uploading files that aren’t too important and sharing them to a group of people. Once everybody who needs to download it is finished, you can just leave it be. If the link was made public and other people wishes to download the file(s), they may of course do so. Once the file’s download popularity is gone, it will be removed from the server. Just like a disposable storage device.

2Big2Send: Send Large Files

October 6th, 2008 | 7 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

2Big2Send is another file hosting site where you can store large files and send them to friends. The free service will give you 1 GB of disk space and 1 GB of download bandwidth per month. If you need a larger one, you need to purchase a premium account. The free account will give you enough space to store medium size files that are too large to share through emails.

Sharing is very easy using 2Big2Send.  All you have to do is enter your recipient’s email address as if you’re sending an email with a large (or small) file attached. The recipient will then receive an email containing a link to the download page for the file that you have sent. You (the sender) can be notified through email when the file has been sent and collected. This will make it easier for you to know whether the file that you sent reached the recipient without expecting an email telling you that he/she got the file.

There is also an available desktop client for easier uploads. If you are going to be using 2Big2Send frequently, the desktop client will make your life a lot easier.

DropBox: Sync and Share a Folder

September 20th, 2008 | 4 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

DropBox is a very interesting online file hosting/sharing service which allows you to sync your online account with your computer. It’s like having a folder on your computer which is always online.

To start using DropBox, just download their desktop application which works on Windows, Mac and Linux. Install the application and you can begin creating your DropBox account and sync it with a folder in your computer. The process just takes a few minutes and the instructions are very easy to follow so you should encounter no problems installing it.

Uploading files to your DropBox account is a snap. Just drag the file(s) to the linked folder on your PC/Mac and it will automatically update/sync with your online account. Any change that you make on the files in your local folder will be automatically synchronized with your online account.

DropBox also protects your files from unfortunate circumstances. If you happen to accidentally delete a file(s) from your local folder, you can still access those deleted files and restore them in your online account in the web interface. It’s like having your own online recycle bin in DropBox.

You can easily share individual files to your friends through a URL that is created for each of your files so there should be no problem for you linking them to blogs and websites and handing them out in emails and IMs. Folders can be shared by inviting friends through email so they can access those folders in their desktop. Anything that you place in the shared folder will be visible to friends who have accepted your invitation and vice-versa.

DropBox will give you a total of 2GB of hardrive space for your online account. It’s not much if you’re thinking on uploading ripped movies or thousands of songs to your DropBox account but there should be enough space for medium quality photos, documents and small files.

Free File Hosting for RAR Files

July 28th, 2008 | 4 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

RarHost is a free hosting service focused on hosting RAR files. RAR is the native format of WinRAR archiver. What makes RarHost so great is that you can actually view the content of the RAR file before making a download. This will give the user the ability to scout the inside of the compressed file for malicious wares that might me included in the RAR file.

The service offers unlimited hosting for RAR files as long as it is below 350MB per file. If your file is larger than 350 MB you have to split it in order to upload it in RarHost. Files uploaded by non members will only be hosted for 30 days on inactivity. Members will be given 2 months of non download activity before the file is removed from the database.

Registration is quick and free so I see no reason for uploading files as a non member. Members can access the file URL anytime in their dashboards and can manage uploaded files a lot quicker by taking advantage of the monitoring service. You can check how many times your RAR files have been downloaded. The uploader also has the ability to delete the files that he/she uploaded in RarHost. A special file URL will be available to the uploader for quick sharing to friends. You can also set a password to the uploaded file if you wish. This is great if the file you are sharing is only for specific downloaders.

There are many free file hosting services available online where you can also upload RAR files. The only thing is that the other user, which is the downloader, will never know what is in that file until the download is finished. RarHost provides literally more transparency when it comes to viewing the contents of the uploaded compressed files.
