Send Files from a URL Directly to your Dropbox or Email

July 5th, 2011 | 2 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

Do you need to download a file but you are in a computer or device that prohibits downloading? Fear not, there’s a web app called sideCLOUDload that lets you save files directly to the “Cloud.”

SideCLOUDload allows you to send files from a download link to your Dropbox or email account. You can perform the download by copying the download link or source link to SideCLOUDload’s text box. After providing your Dropbox credentials or email address to sideCLOUDload, hit submit and be on your way.

This is a lot better than copying the download link and saving it to your email. By using the app, you can immediately share the file that you’ve downloaded. You’ll be sharing the actual file, and not just the link which will also serve as a backup of the file should it be removed from the original source.

You can also use the app to remotely download files from the web to your computer. The automatic syncing feature of Dropbox will allow you to save files to your computer once they have been sideCLOUDloaded. Use your work computer, iPhone, iPad, Android Phone or Android Tablet to sideCLOUDload.

[sideCLOUDload] Thanks to Corey.

ShadyEmail: Mask Your Email to Make it Look Suspicious

April 19th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Tips N Tricks

ShadyEmail is an email masking service inspired by ShadyURL. If you’re not familiar with ShadyURL, it’s a URL masking service slash URL shortener that hides the true form of your URLs to make them look suspicious. Shady Email works the same way as ShadyURL. You can generate a suspicious looking email address.

To use the service, simply provide them with your valid email address. Hit the submit button and you’ll have your shady email address instantly. You can also place the website on which you’ll use the shady email address, but this is entirely optional. Once the shady email has been generated, all emails that are sent to your shady mail will be forwarded to the valid email that you’ve provided until the shady-email is destroyed.

Just like ShadyURL, the service is for entertainment purposes only. Some generated emails can be offensive to others so check them before using them. It’s a great way to hide the true form of your email and make your friends wonder where in the hell did you come up with such names and email domains.

Dispostable: Get a Disposable Inbox

February 6th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Tips N Tricks

You might have heard of disposable email address for sending email anonymously. Dispostable differs from those services by providing you with a disposable inbox. It can only be used for receiving emails and not for sending. It’s like creating an email address that destructs as soon as you clear your created inboxes.

The creation process only takes a few seconds. You can choose your own username or choose a random name for your inbox and begin handing it out immediately. You don’t need to register for an account to use the service. There is also no login needed in order to view the messages left on your dummy email account.

What is it good for?

You can use the service to create a dummy email address and hand it out to a person or group of persons you don’t trust completely with your email. You can receive messages through Dispostable and download them in EML format. The EML format is commonly associated with Outlook Express and is used by other email clients as well, so you won’t have a problem opening your saved email from Dispostable.

SparkTooth: Track Keywords on a Website and Get Notified

June 8th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Tips N Tricks

sparktoothAre you patiently waiting for an article to appear on a website? Now, you don’t have to refresh or constantly visit the site where your desired keyword might appear. You can get an email notification when a phrase or keyword appear on a website or blog through SparkTooth.

All you need to do is enter the phrase or keyword along with the URL of the website you want to track plus your email address. You will be notified when the word or set of words appear on the website. The service checks websites every 10 minutes and once it finds what you’re looking for, your email will be removed from the system. The tool only searches the URL that you have provided and not the entire domain. This will prevent you from getting the wrong notice in cases that the website previously published an article or post with keywords similar to what you are looking for.

SparkTooth simply makes it easier for us to track certain keywords that relate to an article that we are interested in. I may not be an everyday app for some but for those who constantly track the web, this will surely come in very handy.

To use the service, just select which type of email signature you want and you will be asked for your social networking profile URL or username. Choose which email service you want the signature to appear. Enter the username and password for your email. This works for Yahoo, Windows Live and AOL email accounts. If you’re concerned with your email security and hesitant to hand out your email username and password, you can choose the safer option that works on Gmail. It comes in the form of a bookmarklet. Just save the bookmarklet and press it every time you want to place your Email signature in Gmail.

Support for Windows Mail and Microsoft Outlook is coming soon. I personally, would like to see Mozilla Thunderbird added to the list.
