Add Weird Effects to your Photos without Photoshop

July 11th, 2011 | Comments Off | Posted in Tips N Tricks

Sometimes, you just want to quickly add an effect to your photo. No tedious editing, no spending time watching tutorials, no Photoshop. If you have a photo and want to simply add non-conventional effect(s) on it, try using Imageoid. It’s a web app that lets you easily apply effects to your photos.

To use the service, simply upload a photo, transform it, apply effects and download the result. If you’re using (or familiar with) Instagram on your iPhone, it kinda works the same, only for your browser and with more effects for you to choose from.

As good as Imageoid as in adding photo effects quickly (performs rather fast) and effectively, there’s only one thing that concerns me. The maximum size per file(photo) upload is only 800Kb. This simply means that you can’t upload photos taken directly from high megapixel cameras. Forget about using it on photos taken immediately from DLSRs. I tried a photo from my digital camera and it got rejected because it’s 2MB in size. I need to resize the photo to reduce the file size which takes time. In my humble opinion, changing the max upload capacity will greatly improve the service in terms of convenience. I really don’t want to open Photoshop and resize my image just to add effects on a web app. If I use Photoshop to open the image, I might as well choose a filter and add effects while I’m at it.

FlixTime: Quick Video Maker with Transition Effects

March 5th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Technology

FlixTime is a video app that lets you create a video file slide out of photos, video clips and text. You can publish a video slide with transition effects in (3) three easy steps and in about (3) three minutes. The service is absolutely free and as soon as you finished signing up for an account, you’ll be able to start creating your 60 second video immediately.

To create a Flix video, just add photos/videos, music and text. Click on the “Add Photos/Videos” button, and you’ll be presented with two choices: Upload and Media Lounge. You can upload images from your computer to Flixtime, or select stock photos from the Media Lounge. You’ll also be presented with the same choices for the “Add Music” — upload your own music, or choose from our stock music collection! To create a text slide, simply click “Add Text Slide”, and enter your text in the “main text” and “subtext” fields.

You can move and organize images by simply clicking, dragging and dropping the image to the place in the timeline that you’d like it to appear. You can also rotate and duplicate images using the video creator. The effects and transitions are automatically generated by their system, and every time you render, a new and unique video is generated.

What I like about FlixTime is that it doesn’t limit you to just create videos online. You can download the created videos so that you can use them offline and on different devices. You’ll have a choice of MP4, DivX, H.264 and FLV files, all in 640 x 360 resolution, and a smaller MP4 file (320x x 240) for iPods and other portable video players.

FlixTime allowed files for upload:

• Video: avi, mpg, flv, wmv and mov files, maximum file size and resolution: 75MB

• Audio: mp3 files, maximum file size and length: 15MB

• Photos: jpeg, gif and png files, maximum file size: 7MB

You can purchase pro credits and use them to process high quality and original size photos. You can still process ordinary sized photos using the effects available on Rollip. As an early gift from me and Rollip, 10 Readers of Orangeinks can get a pro account for free with 30 credits each (the worth $5.98 per account, the normal Pro account is $2.99 for 15 photos). Just make the jump to get your Free Rollip Pro Account.
