What’s that Word Again? Maybe Tip of My Tongue Can Help You

October 21st, 2008 | 4 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

Tip of My Tongue is a web app that helps you find/remember that “forgotten ” word that has been bugging you all day. Usually, if someone forgets a word, that person would normally say that it’s on the tip of my tongue. If it is, then most probably, you can find it here.

The service is very easy to use. All you need to do is to give it clues about the word that you are looking for. You can add the letter that it begins with, the letters on the middle of the word or the ending letter. You can further refine your search by placing “must have” and “can’t have” letters. You are also allowed to place “sounds like” words, synonyms or single word meanings.

The engine will display live results on the right side of your screen as you type in your clues for the word that you are searching for. No need to press a search button to display results. You can change your clues anytime without wasting too much time searching for a word. The search results also provide a definition of the probable words that you are looking for.

Tip of My Tongue is a very interesting web application. As of now, it only gives dictionary word results. It would have been great if it can add encyclopedia words as well. Being able to search for popular names of people and places would add more usability to Tip of My Tongue.

Oriango is a new and interesting search engine. The way it displays its search results is something you don’t see everyday. The user generated content is pretty common but the alphabetical order of showing it is something else. It will take you just a couple of clicks to view a search result. You can filter results under a particular letter by simply clicking on the letter of your choice. You can also filter results by type of search: site, blog media, and profile.
