Quixey: An App Search Engine that Understands You

October 21st, 2011 | 3 Comments | Posted in Technology

Where do you usually search for apps? Google? Bing? Yahoo!? – Or the native search engine of the platform that caters the apps? Well, you can ditch the search engines that I’ve mentioned and head over to Quixey. It’s your one stop search tool for any app that you’ll need. You can search for iOS apps, Andriod Apps, Windows Apps, Chrome Apps, Firefox Add Ons, Etc.

What makes Quixey different from your favorite search engine is that not only is it focused on apps, it understands natural language. This means that it will understand you and deliver the app you need. It will help you find the app that’s suitable for you, ranked based on their algorithm. You need not type the exact name of the app or keywords that describes the app if you’re looking for a task specific app for your needs.

How do they do this?

Quixey invented Functional Search specifically for apps. With Quixey, you do not need to know an app’s name or its official description to find the right app. Unlike traditional search engines, Quixey constantly scans blogs, review sites, forums and social media outlets to learn what each app can do and how people use it. Quixey uses this data to help users find the apps they need across all platforms. Since we have a thorough understanding of each app, Functional Search is not dependent on keywords.

Watch the short video to get a glimpse of Quixey in action.

The long video is from an interview by Robert Scoble.

MinFBook: A Chrome Plugin for a Minimalist Facebook

May 31st, 2011 | 1 Comment | Posted in Tips N Tricks

Click Imageto Enlarge

Do you hate how Facebook look? Want to try minimalizing the pages in such a way that it would suit your preference? There’s an easy way to customize how you see Facebook through a Chrome plugin called MinFBook (Minimalist for Facebook). It is a personalized solution for those who are tired of useless and distracting elements in the Facebook interface. You can Individually hide almost 50 interface elements, custom colors, and more…

With MinFbook you can simplify Facebook without losing practicality. I’m a big fan of the minimal the web, But sometimes, when minimalism steps in, the practicality of a particular web product is diminished. By using the plugin, you can select which features will appear and which ones will stay hidden. It actually doesn’t automatically do all the work for you. You have to choose which ones will stay by editing the plugin settings. It removes as much or as little as you want. It also adds functionality if you so choose. Just remember that the plugin will only work on your browser, the Chrome browser in particular, and will only affect how you see Facebook. It doesn’t alter your Facebook account in any way. Your Facebook friends will still see your profile the same as everybody else see theirs.

Using BBC News Alarm is very easy. On your Chrome Browser, install the BBC News Alarm and set the alarm time. That’s pretty much about it.

Angry Birds for Chrome Unlock all Levels Hack

May 12th, 2011 | 3 Comments | Posted in Games, Tips N Tricks

This was expected but I didn’t think that it would be this fast. The recently released Angry Birds for Google Chrome has already been hacked. The hack will enable you to unlock all levels and play the special Chrome levels.

Here’s what you should do:

Simply copy and paste the codes below into your address bar in your Chrome browser and open Angry Birds. If it didn’t work the first time, paste the code again with your Angry Birds open and it will reload automatically. That should do the trick.

Unlock Code:

javascript: var i = 0; while (i<=69) { localStorage.setItem(‘level_star_’+i,’3′); i++; } window.location.reload();

Now, to lock all levels again simply copy the codes below, paste it on your Chrome Browser address bar and open Angry Birds.

Lock Code:

javascript: var i = 0; while (i<=69) { localStorage.setItem(‘level_star_’+i,’-1′); i++; } window.location.reload();

If you don’t want to play the boring levels that you think you’ve played countless times in your mobile phone/tablet, you can use this hack and unlock the Chrome level.

Securely Browse the Web with HTTPS EveryWhere for Firefox

April 25th, 2011 | Comments Off | Posted in Tips N Tricks

HTTPS Overview

Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is a combination of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol with the SSL/TLS protocol to provide encrypted communication and secure identification of a network web server. This simply means that when you are browsing under the HTTPS web protocol, you can breathe easier and not worry about your online information being stolen by someone from your network. For added information about SSL/TLS and other Jargon, look it up on Wikipedia.

How to Browse Securely All the Time

HTTPS Everywhere is a Firefox extension that will give you additional security and privacy when browsing your favorite websites. HTTPS is important when you are browsing unsecure networks such as public WIFI (e.g. coffee shops, hotels, etc.). And you would definitely want something like this if you want to protect your information from people who would want to steal them using readily available tools like Firesheep.

Many sites on the web offer some limited support for encryption over HTTPS, but make it difficult to use. For instance, they may default to unencrypted HTTP, or fill encrypted pages with links that go back to the unencrypted site. The HTTPS Everywhere extension fixes these problems by rewriting all requests to these sites to HTTPS. This simply means that if HTTPS is available on a website, HTTPS Everywhere will suck it out and secure your information whenever it can.

Note: Just a reminder when using HTTPS Everywhere and browsing Google for images while using HTTPS Everywere, the image search (link) disappears. You need to un-tick the Google Search in the HTTPS Everywhere Options and restart your Firefox if you want to view (search) images from Google.

Chrome users can use KB SSL Enforcer.
