March 2nd, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Technology

NeatChat is a simple browser based chat application. It allows you to create a chat room in just a couple of seconds. There is no signups necessary and there’s no need to download or install anything. All you need is your trusty browser and you can have a chat room ready in no time.

How it works:

Upon landing on NeatChat’s home page, you’ll be able to easily figure out what to do. Simply type in a chat nickname and click the Start Group button. That’s all there is to it actually. The chat session will start. You’ll see a special URL on the chat page which you will distribute to your friends so that they’ll get access to the chat session that you’ve created. When they access the URL that you’ve sent them, they’ll be able to enter the chat room and start conversing with everyone that you’ve invited. It couldn’t get any simpler than that.

Neat Chat provides you a clean, fast, and robust chat room. You can share files, send private messages, and change your status through an intuitive interface. If you are late to a chat session, you need not worry, Neat Chat allows you to access all the conversations that took place in your absence. Just be careful when talking about someone while he/she is still absent during the chat session.

Voxli : Instant Group Voice Chat Service

March 14th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Tips N Tricks

voxliWant an easy way to setup a group voice chat? Head over to Voxli and accomplish it in just a few clicks. You won’t have to invite your friends to join you on an IM service and create a conference room for voice chat. You simply need your browser and your mic.

To use the service, just place your custom Voxli URL or use the unique page that is already provided for you. You will be asked to install a small plugin in order for Voxli to work on your browser. After installing the plugin, you can immediately invite friends, players, teammates over to your personal voice chat page. It’s as simple as that.

You can leave the talk mode to “always on” or edit the Pusht to talk keyboard shortcut. This is useful if you’re using applications that pretty much eat up your entire screen such as games and other space consuming software.

The things that you can do using Voxli

• Voice chat with up to 200 people at a time.

• Never leave the browser – no large download, no server setup.

• Invite your friends by sending them the URL of your voice conference through email or instant messenger.

• Use push to talk to control when you are speaking even if you are outside the browser.

Voxli is only free for all group sizes during open beta. I’m guessing that there will be limitations for the free account and a premium account must be purchased for heavy users.

99chats-logo99Chats is simple embeddable chat room for your websites. It’s the latest product of 99Widgets, a widget network that provides webware and social platform services. They provide simple solutions for simple web needs.
The chat widget can easily be created by anybody. I believe that even a child could do it. The customization only goes as far as changing the theme color, background color and the size of the widget. Within the chatroom that you’ve created, you can PM (private message anyone) in another window and chat with everybody on the main page. Being a dead simple chat service, it also has some drawbacks. There are no administrative commands, which would mean that there is no way to control the users that are coming in and out of the chat room. So, be prepared for the Trolls. See the sample chat widget below.

Jabbify: Unobtrusive Chat Plugin for Websites

October 17th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Blog Tips

There are lots of chat client widgets/plugins for blogs and websites. Most bloggers do not use chat widgets mainly because it reduces commenting on articles and it consumes sidebar space. For sites or blogs which offers a service or a product, a chat widget is a handy tool to have.

Jabbify offers a widget that you can place on your blogs/websites which will not consume space from your site. It can sit on the bottom part of the browser so that it will not interfere with your content or waste sidebar space. The user has the power to turn it off or pop it out in a different window. What I like about Jabbify is that a user can register his name and the URL of his/her site in the chat widget. The user’s name will link to the URL he/she entered and will be available in the conversations. This way, the owner and other visitors of the site can check out the participant’s respective blogs or sites. It’s pretty much like a comment system on blogs. The only difference is that Jabbify is live.

Setting up the plugin is very easy. You can either get the java script tag which works on any site or if you are using a blogging platform like WordPress or Blogger, there is a quick how-to guide that will help you setup Jabbify easily on your blogs. After installing the plugin, all that’s left to do is to use your Jabbify to register your website.

If you are looking for an unobtrusive chat plugin for your blogs, Jabbify is worth a try. Just head over to their site and sign up.
