KnockinLive.Com: Live Video Sharing App for Apple/iPhone and Android Users

April 20th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Technology

KnockingLive is a phone app which allows you to instantly share a live feed video with friends. This benefits both iPhone and Android users as of this moment. KnockingLive is also planning on making the app compatible with BlackBerry, Symbian, Windows Mobile and Palm phones.

All you need to do is to download the app from the AppStore if you are an iPhone user and get it from the Android MarketPlace if you have an android phone. Once downloaded and installed, you can immediately “knock” on your friends’ phones and begin your real time video feed.

What makes KnockingLive very interesting is that it supports both Android and Apple. Users of both platforms (and soon other phone OS) will be able to share and receive video feeds. If you have an Andriod Phone, you don’t need to get an iPhone just to see what the other guy is streaming from his iPhone. All you need is the app and you can view video feeds from anyone you are in contact with.

Okimok: iPhone Photo Streaming App

April 29th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Technology

okimokOkimok is an online social photo streaming service that allows you to upload photos from your iPhone and share them with everyone. The service is for iPhone users only if you are going to upload photos, but non-iPhone users can also sign-up, follow other users and view their photo streams.

If you are expecting that Okimok is a photo host for your iPhone captured moments, you are mistaken. The service only allows you to stream up to 15 photos in your solo stream. Older photos will automatically be deleted to update your stream. The purpose of this is to see what your friends are doing right now. You can think of it as your most recent 15 photos stream update of your life. There’s also the combo stream, which shows the latest 30 photos of all the friends you’re following. It’s like having a personal home theater of your friend’s adventures.

Okimok is an interesting service for streaming photos and sharing them with your friends through your iPhone. Just be careful on uploading photos because you cannot delete individual photos. However, you can ask them to delete all your photos from your photo stream or just upload more photos to overwrite the previous ones. Have fun streaming.

AudioBoo: iPhone Audio Blogging App

April 21st, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites

audiobooAudioBoo is an iPhone app that makes it possible to easily post audio blogs, called “boos,” from your iPhone. You can also play the “boos” posted by other members from your iPhone. Of course, there is also a web interface that allows everybody to hear the video blogs.

The web interface of the service gives you a Twitter feeling to it. Users can follow each other’s “boos.” The only thing that’s missing is the ability to reply to a particular audio post which would be very cool if the feature becomes available.

Embed codes are provided so that you can republish your AudioBoo to your blogs and social networking sites. AudioBoo can also automatically post a Facebook message when you publish a Boo. Just tell Facebook to give AudioBoo permission to do so.

This is a new way of publishing audio content online. It’s a great alternative to 140 character long micro blogging. I just wish that they’d make apps for other phones other than the iPhone. This will surely drive users to AudioBoo.

Vysr: RoamAbout Offers a Better Browsing Experience

June 12th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

Ever since tabbed browsing became a common feature for browsers, accessing information became a lot easier especially for heavy internet users like researchers, bloggers and information geeks. The problem today is that there are so many web services out there that you’ll often end up opening and closing a tab just to fit them all to your browser.

Vysr came up with a solution in the form of an application called RoamAbout. RoamAbout is a useful, non-intrusive browser extension which will allow you to access information in just a couple of clicks without leaving the page you are currently browsing. The application is equipped with webapps that you can access instantly through RoamAbout. A small overlay window will appear on the page you’re in once you clicked on a web app.

How to Use:

The application comes in two packs: the business pack and the social pack. You can download any of them for it makes little difference which one you choose. Once downloaded, you can customize either pack to fit your browsing need by clicking the green “+” button.

After installing the application (works with Firefox and IE) a small blue “R” button will neatly appear on the bottom right of your browser. You can toggle that button to show/hide RoamAbout.

When browsing, highlight a text from the page you are currently in and click a service (e.g. Wikipedia) from RoamAbout. A popup window will appear containing related information about the highlighted text. If you clicked YouTube, related videos about the highlighted text will appear on the popup window. It also lets you view the video from within the RoamAbout popup window.

I also find the map, weather and stocks feature very useful. Just the same, highlight a text (e.g. Address) and once you click MapQuest, the popup window will display the map of the highlighted address. A weather report will be given for a highlighted zip code or city and you can immediately access stock reports for a highlighted company name.

You do not need a highlighted text every time you want to use RoamAbout. You can do your own searches from within the popup window. Other features include Twitter Access, Roam About Games, Related News, FaceBook ang Gmail sharing and Related Photos from Flickr.

When I tested the application, I found some loading delays and thought that it could use a bookmarking service. I emailed the Vysr team and I got a reply from Guda (CEO of Vysr) through Bernadette of Vyser. Check it out below.

We will continue to deploy apps on a regular basis and will be releasing a
platform api and development kit for third parties to develop their own
apps. We also fixed the problem that was causing the sluggishness some
people noticed.

We have a number of exciting features in store. At the moment, however, we
are collecting feedback and suggestions from users on what is most important
and desired and will be prioritizing based on such feedback. We welcome any
and all feedback.

We are definitely looking at a bookmarking service in addition to a number
of other web services based on user feedback and evaluating potential web
services for this purpose. Our preference, of course, is to work with
existing third-party apps when available.

The application is very useful and can save a lot of time going from one service to another to access information. It is non intrusive and neatly placed on the bottom of the browser. What I like about the popup window feature is that it does not follow you around on other tabs. Once an overlay window appears on a page, it stays there (like I said, it’s non-intrusive). This will let you freely browse other sites without a small window following you around on other tabs.

Mixx Launches Facebook App

March 1st, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites

Mixx is a social voting site similar to Digg which has been branded as the refuge of ex-diggers, but as the site grows, adding one feature after another, Mixx is slowly becoming the favorite of many. This just shows that these guys mean business in taking a share in the social voting network biz.

The Mixx team have been working on a Facebook App for some time now and if you are Mixx member, you should have gotten their email about the launch of this new feature. They have just announced that that the app is now up and running. You can now submit, comment and share content from around the web without leaving your FaceBook page. You can also set your FaceBook interests so that you’ll get the content you want delivered right in your profile page. They are calling this app the “Mini Mixx.”

  • Invite Facebook friends to join Mixx
  • Find out if any of your Mixx Groups have crossed over
  • Take the shortcut to a Facebook version of the MixxLounge and see the Mixxers who are also on Facebook and the number of Karma points they have

So there you have it. You can check out the Mixx FaceBook App here.
