Quixey: An App Search Engine that Understands You

October 21st, 2011 | 3 Comments | Posted in Technology

Where do you usually search for apps? Google? Bing? Yahoo!? – Or the native search engine of the platform that caters the apps? Well, you can ditch the search engines that I’ve mentioned and head over to Quixey. It’s your one stop search tool for any app that you’ll need. You can search for iOS apps, Andriod Apps, Windows Apps, Chrome Apps, Firefox Add Ons, Etc.

What makes Quixey different from your favorite search engine is that not only is it focused on apps, it understands natural language. This means that it will understand you and deliver the app you need. It will help you find the app that’s suitable for you, ranked based on their algorithm. You need not type the exact name of the app or keywords that describes the app if you’re looking for a task specific app for your needs.

How do they do this?

Quixey invented Functional Search specifically for apps. With Quixey, you do not need to know an app’s name or its official description to find the right app. Unlike traditional search engines, Quixey constantly scans blogs, review sites, forums and social media outlets to learn what each app can do and how people use it. Quixey uses this data to help users find the apps they need across all platforms. Since we have a thorough understanding of each app, Functional Search is not dependent on keywords.

Watch the short video to get a glimpse of Quixey in action.

The long video is from an interview by Robert Scoble.

Touchoo: iPad App for Children

May 18th, 2010 | 3 Comments | Posted in Tips N Tricks

Ever since the official announcement for the production of the Apple iPad, developers have been very busy creating different applications for Apple’s newest toy. Touchoo is one of those applications that are built for the iPad. It is a company that is geared towards publishing quality interactive book apps for toddlers and children. They aim to combine the beauty in traditional children’s books with the intuitiveness and flexibility of touch screen technology.

Books allow all of us, grown-ups and children alike, to fantasize and use our imagination. Our vision is to help create a new age of children’s books, that cherishes what children have enjoyed for ages, without ignoring the unique opportunities available to this generation: a generation that will use new technology to develop themselves as individuals, and, no doubt, will change the world in ways that none of us can even imagine!

With the input of a select group of writers, illustrators, animators and programmers, Touchoo creates apps that stimulate the child on many developmental levels: emotional, mental, educational, and social – all strictly age appropriate. Each of their books explores a different developmental stage and is written to help the child learn a new skill while reading and playing. To ensure that the books they publish are perfectly suited to the needs and abilities of the young ones – in content, functionality and appearance – all Touchoo book-apps™ are made under supervision of a developmental psychologist.

The next time you search for an iPad app on iTunes for your kids, do check out Touchoo for an interactive and touch screen learning experience.

Magic Window: Virtual Window for iPad

May 7th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Design, Technology

Magic Window is a “relaxation” app for the Apple iPad. It may be rather simple but it is actually useful for most. It turns your iPad into a virtual window with magical views of beautiful scenes. If you are stuck in your room with no window or office cubicle with only a spreadsheet application on front of you, then Magic Window might just do the trick for you.

You can choose from ten stunning scenes and watch them come to life before your eyes. Use the speed control to adjust the speed of the scene to make time go faster or slower. Touch your finger on the screen and slide sideways to move through time. View sunsets, mountain scenes, and even a fireplace. Use the controls to move through time and experience nature in a way never before possible.

If you want to create a relaxing and serene ambience using your iPad to add a little life to your room or working place, check this app out.
