Pay a Blogger Day is on November 29

November 22nd, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Blog Tips

Pay a Blogger Day is an internet startup that hopes to motivate readers and internet users to give a small (monetary)token of appreciation to bloggers who provide them with content that they love.

Some of the wittiest most insightful content comes from bloggers doing it because they want to, not because of money and fame. That is all the more reason to give something back.

While monetary tokens are super awesome, the best way to show your appreciation to a blogger is by sharing your favorite blog content. For me, it’s the best way to make a blogger smile.

SpellBoy: Spell-Check The Web

June 8th, 2010 | 1 Comment | Posted in Blog Tips

SpellBoy is an online spell-checker tool. If you are a blogger/online publisher, a good spell checking tool is a must-have. Misspelled words can affect the search engine optimization of your website which can result in mis-searches or non-indexing of search engines.

You can use SpellBoy to check spell words that you are unsure of. Sometimes a quick Google search for the word also works. Simply search for the word you want to check. If the word that you typed is misspelled, Google will suggest a correctly spelled word.

If you’re thinking what you need SpellBoy for, since Google, Microsoft Word and your blog editor helps you out with spelling, here’s your answer: SpellBoy can check-spell and entire page for you. You just have to simply enter the URL of the webpage you want to spell-check, and it will return words that it doesn’t recognize as words with spelling errors. By doing this, you can quickly review the found words and make the proper changes if necessary.

BlogRadio: Listen to Any Blog Anywhere

June 1st, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Blog Tips

BlogRadio is a cloud based, streaming media for RSS. It simply means that you can listen to any blog that has RSS (which is almost all blogs). If you’re too busy to read your favorite blogs but still want to be updated, you can listen to them while you do your stuff. And it’s all for free.

How it works

You’ll have to download a desktop application which supports three major operating systems (Windows, Linux, Mac OS-X). Once installed, simply subscribe to your favorite blog(s) using the BlogRadio Desktop Manager Tool. BlogRadio will convert the text of the blog to an audio file for you. All that’s left for you to do now is to sit back and listen.

BlogRadio is an alternative way of keeping in-touch with your favorite blogs. If you’re too busy to read them, why not listen to them. You can choose a male or female voice to read for you and they are made to sound as natural as possible.

Blog Radio also has an iPhone app that allows you to sync your streams and listen (and view images) using your iPhone.

BlogVault: Instant Backup for your WordPress Blog

April 26th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Blog Tips

Maintaining a blog is not entirely easy. Checking for bugs, updating plugins, optimizing tables, scripts and constantly checking for new features is what a blogger who uses hosted WordPress as a blog platform normally does to maintain it. Then, there’s also the constant backup in case your blog suddenly crashes. Luckily there are plugins that we can use to easily backup WordPress blogs. One of those plugins is called BlogVault.

BlogVault is a service that creates a backup of your blog. What it does is it backs up all aspects of a WordPress blog including full posts, comments, pages, images, plugins, themes and styleshees (CSS). Most WordPress blog backup plugins will copy and backup your blog to your computer harddrive. What makes BlogVault different from those plugins is that it has a service that lets you backup your blog in their servers.

Why should you backup your blog?

Servers while generally robust do tend to fail occasionally. When this happens, often all the stored data is lost. As a blogger you do not want your effort to be lost when such a catastrophe occurs.

To take advantage of BlogVault, simply sign-up for an account, download the plugin and place it in the plugins folder of your hosted WordPress in your server. Once the plugin has been activated, you can immediately begin your backup process.
