Like my Colors?

February 28th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Design

i-like-your-colorsIf you like the colors that I used in this site or other sites for that matter, you can easily check them out using I Like Your Colors. It’s a useful tool for gathering color data from sites that uses CSS for styling.

What the app does is extract the color codes found on the CSS styles. You can also see those codes using Firebug (Firefox Extension) but this is much easier and faster. Just remember that this tool is not effective in gathering color information from flash enabled sites and those that uses images for most parts of the web design. If you want to check out the colors used in an image(s) you can use Whatsitscolors for that or use the eyedropper tool in Photoshop.

There are so many websites out there featuring different color combinations in their design. If you are interested in those colors, you can use the tools that I’ve mentioned. Have fun coloring your sites.

BackupURL: Create Cached Copy of Any URL

February 27th, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Tips N Tricks

backupurlHere’s a simple tool that you can use to create backup of pages that you found online. BackupURL makes it easy for you to create a cached copy of any web page. All you have to do is enter the URL of the page you want cached. What BackupURL does is store that page to their servers so that you can view them even if the site goes down.

This can be useful for creating copies of pages that tend to go down from time to time, that is if BackupURL itself doesn’t go down on you. It can also be used to save data that are often deleted or modified. If you made a comment on a page or a blog post and concerned that it may get deleted or modified by the owner, this might come in handy in providing proof.

You will be given a URL for your cached page and a short URL is also provided for easy sharing on micro blogs. This might not be your everyday app but it’s worth checking out especially for site owners. It might come in handy sometime.

The Good and the Baad

February 25th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites

Most social voting sites have rating scripts to judge if a post or topic deserves to be read. There are sites that feature only the up vote button, some uses stars to balance the ratings and there are those that only allow two sided votes. The classic 1 and 0, yes or no, thumbs up, thumbs down, black and white good or bad.

goodbaadGoodBaad is one of those social voting sites where everything is black and white. Well, the site itself looks black and white but with shades of grey. I guess it’s only for design purposes. Good Baad aims to be the definitive record of public opinion. They hope to present the statistics that interest you in the most simple, uncluttered manner. Yes people, it’s just black and white for these guys, strong opinions about certain topics that interest its users.

We hope these stats will act as a useful basis for blog posts, articles and debates. When using this site as a source please link back to us – the more users we have the more useful the information becomes. We plan to add widgets to make adding our features to your sites and social networks easier.

Those of you who are up for debates about a certain topic, you can consider Good Baad as a place to ignite the fire leading to more interesting discussions.

RateMyAnimations: Draw, Animate, Share

February 23rd, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Cool Sites

ratemyanimationsRateMyAnimations is a community powered site where you can create animations and share them anywhere. If you’re familiar with Rate My Drawings, a really cool drawing community with a great online drawing tool and a rocking share widget that displays an animation of the drawing being created right from where the artist made the first stroke. RateMyAnimations is a sister site of RateMyDrawings as you might already have guessed.

Additional features for video editing are added to the RateMyAnimation’s editor. The animation tool is basically a tweaked version of the drawing tool found in RateMyDrawings. Since the site is a community for artists, the animation editor does not let you upload pre existing images. You must create your animation from scratch by drawing. It would be nice though if they would allow you to upload or integrate your work from RateMyDrawings. This will give RMD artists to experiment with animation using their previous creations without having to draw them all over again. Anyway, the animation editor is still on beta so there should be more features coming soon.
