Get 50 Gigabytes Free Online File Storage Space

March 25th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Cool Sites

There are lots of services that offer free file storage for anyone who feels the need to keep their data online, rather than bringing an external file storage with them. It has its downside though, you have to have an internet connection to access the file you want to retrieve. Still, it is a good precaution to make just in case you experience hardware failure. I always tell people to backup their documents to their web emails, but for files much bigger than 10MB, a good and reliable online file storage service can also be recommended.

adrive.jpgADrive is a company that offers people up to 50 Gigabytes of free storage. This is by far the biggest space a free file storage service has offered. The company boasts a lot of key technology features to ensure you that your data is safe, among them are: of course a climate controlled data center with advanced cooling technologies for their servers, the most current snapshot technology is routinely scheduled to ensure that your data is protected, they also boast redundancy on all levels to ensure our backend infrastructure is completely fault-tolerant, from climate and power to software and hardware redundancy (this means that your data and their hardware and software are backed up into multiple levels). They also utilize load balancers to distribute high traffic on their site. This will balance the bandwidth to ensure good connection even if the site is highly trafficked at a given time.

The site is very user friendly with a nice and neat interface and it lets you upload up to two (2) gigabytes per file. What I like most and find interesting about this service is its ability to grab and store a remote file from a URL. Just place the URL of the file you want to save to ADrive and they will get if for you so you can save it for later. You can also add a username and password if the file URL you want to grab is inside a protected or secure site. This will come in handy if the file you want to save is uploaded in the internet for a limited time or you can use this if you are worried that the host will go down due to overloading or if you don’t want to download it in your computer right away. For whatever reason you may have for using an online storage service, this one surely beats other services.

Mytopia: Inter Social Network Gaming

March 24th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Games

We all have our favorite social networking site. With so many out there, it’s hard to choose which one works for a particular person with particular social networking need. Third party applications for these social sites are widely available. Some are exclusive and some supports different social networking platforms. An example of apps that supports different social platforms is My Mini Life.

mytopia-facebook.jpg

mytopia.jpgMytopia is an online gaming application that supports different social networking sites. It currently supports FaceBook, Bebo and MySpace. What makes the game unique is that instead of playing with your friends in your network, it lets you play with people from other networking sites mentioned above. While logged into MySpace, you can challenge Facebook and Bebo users with a game of poker or with other games available in Mytopia.

There a handful of games that you can play in Mytopia. You can play Video Poker, Backgammon, Bingo, Chess, Dominoes, Sodoku and a few more which are currently unavailable or under construction. The service is still in public beta stage so you can expect a few bugs on the games and unavailable features. Other than that, it is very functional and its ability to let you play with people from different (3 as of now) social networking sites makes it worth checking out.

Export your Stumbleupon Favorites

March 23rd, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Tips N Tricks

Here is a nice web tool that lets you export your StumbleUpon Favorites into your computer. Instead of copying the links from your StumbleUpon account, you can import as many as you like using this tool. The guy who made this said that after contacting StumbleUpon a few times about an exporter tool, he didn’t get a single reply, so he made his own tool.

This tool will come in handy if ever you want to review your favorite links without going to your Stumbleupon page. You can also import it to your Firefox Browser’s bookmarks if you want to keep it there. What is great about this tool is that it sorts your favorite links into categories so you can easily browse through your stumbled links. Instead of browsing through your StumbleUpon pages which is sorted by date and time.

How to use:

Like in the image above, just place in your StumbleUpon username (no password required), and the number of favorite links you want to import. Toggle the check box if you want to group your exported links by categories (recommended). Then just press the Import Favorites button and it will start creating your file. You can save the generated page to your desktop or import to your Firefox browser.

Note:

  • In order for this to work, you must set your profile publicly. In your StumbleUpon Preferences under “Personal Information” in My Favorites”, choose Show Favorites to everyone. And under “Public Profile”, in “Share Favorites with Visitors”, choose show all favorites.
  • The exporter will not work on profiles that are “R”  and “X” rated.

feed-journal.pngFeed Journal is a web tool that lets you generate a personalized newspaper from RSS and Atom feeds. The service is free and you can instantly generate your very own news paper in just a few clicks. The generated news paper comes in the form of a PDF file.

If you are a reader, you can customize the feeds that you want to appear in your newspaper. You can delete an existing feed and add a new feed of your choice. You can also set up the number of articles per feed that you want to appear in your generated news paper and whether you to display images or not. After setting this up, all you have to do is press the Generate Newspaper button and Feed Journal will automatically create your PDF newspaper.

Publishers, bloggers, content providers and online business sites can offer an alternative way of reading their articles and content by using Feed Journal’s publisher tool. Online newspapers can offer readers a paper version download. Blog readers can download the content of blogs and read it offline and businesses can publish newsletters with information from various departments easily in a news paper style without having to edit it which takes more work and time. All this can be done by just keying in your email address and the RSS or Atom feed address. An email will be sent to you with a link pointing to a page where you can view your generated printable PDF newspaper. A widget is also available for publishers to showcase the extra feature of their website and to provide the readers with an easy access button if they want to download your newspaper. Remember to create your newspaper first and place the PDF link into the widget creator before placing it in your site or it will display the default Feed Journal newspaper.

Seero Launches to the Public

March 21st, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Technology

seero.jpgI just got an email from Justin Cutillo, Seero founder and CEO, announcing that they are lifting their private beta testing and going public with their live, on-location video platform. Seero is a website that we introduced a few weeks back which utilizes a geobroadcasting platform that integrates live mobile broadcasting and GPS mapping.

seero-bot.pngIn the press release, David Rothschild, one of Seero’s founder and Chief Executive Officer said in his own words: “One mindset has been to recreate Television online. We don’t think that it is the right route because the internet has so much more to offer than just TV and can create a richer experience by utilizing integral content like location.”

Justin was also kind enough to answer a few questions for me regarding their future plans for Seero and the features that they currently added and planning to release. He said in the interview that they recently added playlist management features where broadcasters can choose which videos they would like to play when they are not live broadcasting. If they don’t choose manually, it goes by the three most recent videos. When a user navigates to a profile that is not live, the flash player and map will sequence through the playlist. At any time a viewer can access the video menu and surf to the video of their choice.

They also added marker functionality on the map to point to the location of the geobit/geo-advertisement icon when it is off the screen. Integration with Google Calendar and Twitter API (Application Programming Interface) are also added so that broadcasters will have an easier time letting their audience know when they go live. Justin also confirmed that they are currently in talks with Symbian developers for a Seero cell phone application but no final words about it yet. If this happens, users can broadcast live using their cell phones via 3G and the built in GPS in the phone.

So, if you are into video casting, and thinking about doing a live broadcast with geotag or just plainly want to watch and see live broadcasters, be sure to check out Seero.
